Demon Slayer’s Sound Hashira Gets Real in Flashy New Cosplay

Tengen Uzui roars to life in a new Demon Slayer cosplay.

SPOILERS FOR DEMON SLAYER SEASON 2 FOLLOW:

The Sound Hashira returns to active duty thanks to professional artist and performer Taryn. The cosplayer perfectly captures Tengen's muscular physique and flamboyant demeanor in a new set of photographs, which also show off a screen accurate recreation of the Hashira's costume. The look is completed with a number of small details, including the accurately molding on Uzui's arm guards, the decorative stones that adorn the shinobi's head guard and the kanji that's written on the warrior's unique dual Nichirin cleavers. In one photo, Taryn recreates Tengen's fighting stance from the Entertainment Arc's final battle, where the Hashira is forced to wield his second blade in his mouth after his left arm is severely injured during his duel with the Upper Rank demon Gyutaro.

More of Taryn's cosplay can be viewed on their Instagram page. In addition to more images of their take on Tengen Uzui, their Instagram profile also features pictures of their astounding Jojo's Bizarre Adventure cosplay, which manages to recreate the distinctive line work of Hirohiko Araki's original art. Taryn has cosplayed a wide variety of characters from other popular shonen anime and manga, including One Piece's three-sword wielding warrior Roronoa Zoro, and Jujutsu Kaisen's antagonistic sorcerer Sukuka Ryomen.

Tengen Uzui was first introduced in Demon Slayer's Hashira Meeting arc. Like many of the other Hashira, Uzui is initially hostile towards central protagonist Tanjiro Kamado and his little sister Nezuko, but over the course of the series, a mutual respect develops between the sound-wielding warrior and the Kamado siblings. He plays a major role in the events of the Entertainment District arc, where him and his three ninja wives team up with Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke and Nezuko to take on two Upper Rank members of the Twelve Kizuki, Daki and Gyutaro. The arc is one of the most acclaimed parts of the original Demon Slayer manga, and studio Ufotable's animated adaptation of the story has received additional praise for its spectacular animation and elaborate fight choreography.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba was created by Kotoharu Gotouge and first published in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump in 2016. The complete manga series is now available in English from VIZ Media. The first two seasons of the anime are now available for streaming from Crunchyroll and Hulu. A third season, which will adapt the Swordsmith Village arc, has been confirmed to be in production but currently has no premiere date.
