The trailer for Season 2 of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba confirms that the series will pick up where Mugen Train left off with the Entertainment District Arc. Prominently featured in the trailer, Tengen Uzui is poised to be the next Hashira to enter the spotlight. The Sound Hashira has only appeared twice; once in Season 1 and again for a brief cameo in Mugen Train. Let's go over what we know about Tengen so far and what we can expect from him in Season 2.
As one of the Hashira, the most powerful swordsmen in the Demon Slayer Corps, Tengen Uzui will surely be a force to be reckoned with in combat. Tengen uses Sound-breathing, which is a derivative of the Thunder-breathing that Zenitsu uses. While all Breathing Techniques are visually stunning, Tengen's is different for its potential to be more compelling in its audio presentation. After Rengoku's vibrant Flame-breathing, it will be interesting to see how Tengen's Sound-breathing translates from the manga to the anime.
All the Hashira were pretty strange in their introductions in Season 1, but none more so than Tengen. Obsessed with anything and everything glamorous and flamboyant, the towering Hashira is far more eccentric than any of his comrades we've seen so far. Tengen's bizarre behavior will put him more on Tanjiro and the others' level, at least intellectually. Tanjiro, Inosuke and Zenitsu are pretty odd themselves, so their interactions with Tengen should be less of like the superior-and-subordinate relationship they had with Rengoku.
However, Tengen was among the Hashira most vehemently opposed to allowing Tanjiro and Nezuko to live after learning that Nezuko is a demon. He even went as far as offering to execute them himself -- flamboyantly, of course. However, he seems to be coming around on Tanjiro after learning that he met Muzan Kibutsuji and managed to land a solid headbutt on Sanemi, the Wind Hashira. It's in the air what kind of reaction Tengen will have if he meets Nezuko again in Season 2, but his burgeoning respect for Tanjiro should hopefully keep him civil.
Tengen doesn't seem like he will have the same unflappable nobility that inspires others as Rengoku had. It will be interesting to see how Tanjiro and the other interact with him since he's not aloof like Giyu, quiet and caring like Shinobu, or just a plain jerk like Sanemi. What we know of Tengen's personality seems like he will be the first chance to humanize a Hashira without leaning on a tragic past of some kind. If nothing else, Tengen will surely shake things up for a recently traumatized Tanjiro, Inosuke and Zenitsu.
Mugen Train has established that the Hashira are not invulnerable and Muzan's Upper-Rank Demons are beginning to show themselves. Tengen might very well find himself in the crosshairs of another demon attack, alongside Tanjiro and company. Interestingly, when he learns of Rengoku's death, Tengen states that "even Rengoku could not defeat an Upper Rank," giving the impression that Tengen might not be quite as powerful as the fallen Flame Hashira. As a Hashira, Tengen is an elite swordsman by definition, but with an unknown demon lurking in the teaser trailer, only time will tell how the Sound Hashira fares in Season 2.
