Popular manga series Chainsaw Man, Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba have all managed to earn spots on the New York Times' Best Sellers List.
On the newspaper's most recent Best Sellers List for Graphic Books and Manga, Chainsaw Man's eighth volume placed eighth and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba's second volume ranked 15th. Jujutsu Kaisen had two books make the list, Volumes 13 and 0, which placed 10th and 13th respectively. The New York Times began listing best sellers for graphic novels and manga in October 2019.
Written by Tatsuki Fujimoto and first published in December 2018, Chainsaw Man is an ongoing manga series that follows Denji, an impoverished young man who is a devil hunter for the yakuza in order to work off his deceased father's debt. Beyond its inclusion on this most recent Best Seller List, the manga has received widespread acclaim, including winning the shōnen category of the 66th Shogakukan Manga Award and the Best Manga category for the Harvey Awards. An anime adaptation of Chainsaw Man is set to premiere his year. The show is being produced by MAPPA, the studio behind Attack on Titan: The Final Season, with Ryū Nakayama serving as director and Hiroshi Seko as the scriptwriter.
Koyoharu Gotouge's Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga was published in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump from February 2016 to May 2020. It tells the story of Tanjiro Kamado, whose entire life changes when most of his family is slaughtered by demons and his sister is transformed into one. The series is one of the best-selling manga of all time, having sold over 40 million copies worldwide as of February 2020.
The first season of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime won multiple categories at 2020's Crunchyroll Anime Awards and it also took home the Anime of the Year Grand Prize at the Tokyo Anime Awards Festival that same year. The second season premiered last October.
Jujutsu Kaisen is an ongoing manga series by Gege Akutami that tells the story of Yuji Itadori, a high school student who joins an organization of jujutsu sorcerers. The anime adaptation ran from October 2020 to March 2021, and the prequel movie, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, is on track to become one of the most successful anime films of all time, earning 6.7 billion yen during its first three weeks in theaters.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is available on Netflix, Hulu, Funimation and Crunchyroll, and Jujutsu Kaisen can be found on HBO Max and Crunchyroll.
