Demon Slayer Anime Introduces New Upper Rank Villain

The Upper Rank demon Doma has finally made his debut in the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba anime.

SPOILERS FOR DEMON SLAYER SEASON 2 FOLLOW:

Similar to how the final episode of the anime's first season introduced Enmu, the antagonist of the Mugen Train arc, the last episode of Demon Slayer's Entertainment District arc featured the introduction of Doma, a new Upper Rank member of the Twelve Kizuki that will play a major role in the remaining chapters of the series' story. The episode's end credits confirm that the powerful new demon is portrayed by veteran voice actor Mamoru Miyano, who is known for voicing Light Yagami in Death Note's anime adaptation, protagonist Setsuna F. Seiei in Mobile Suit Gundam OO and Ryuji Sakamoto in the Atlus RPG Persona 5 and its various spinoffs and anime adaptations.

Following the broadcast of the Entertainment District arc's 11th and final episode on Feb. 13, the show's producers announced that the series would continue with an anime adaptation of the Swordsmith Village arc. The new story is the ninth major story arc from Koyoharu Gotouge's original manga, and sees protagonist Tanjiro Kamado traveling to the hometown of the Demon Slayer Corps' blacksmiths in order to once again repair his damaged Nichirin katana. The new arc was revealed alongside new images of the Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito and the Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji.

The cast and crew of the previous two seasons of the anime are all expected to reprise their roles for the series' continuation. The new arc is once again being produced by the acclaimed animation studio Ufotable, and will be helmed by Haruo Sutozaki, who will reprise his role as the series' lead director. Sutozaki directed the first two seasons of the anime, as well as the franchise's first film, Mugen Train, which was released in Japan in 2020 and is now the highest-grossing anime film of all time. A premiere date for the new arc has yet to be announced.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba is one of the most successful manga series of time, with a circulation of over 150 million copies worldwide. Despite the manga's runaway popularity, Gotouge concluded the series in 2020 and the complete story is now available in English from VIZ Media. The first season of the anime is available on Netflix, Hulu, Crunchyroll and Funimation, while the now fully completed second season is available from the latter two services.
