With Ezra Miller's future with Warner Bros. looking very much in doubt following the star's recent run-ins with the law -- as well as the recent revelation that Warner executives were planning to "pause" any future DC Extended Universe or Wizarding World projects with the actor -- fans took to social media to suggest that Grant Gustin, star of the long-running Flash TV series, should take over as the new DCEU Flash.
Per Rolling Stone, Warner Bros. execs held an emergency meeting after Miller was involved in two troubling incidents in Hawaii last month. Reportedly, "the consensus in the room was to hit pause on any future projects involving Miller including possible appearances in the DC Cinematic Universe." The timing is difficult as Miller's first Flash movie hasn't even been released yet.
Even before the "hitting pause" news broke, social media was filled with tweets like this one (which has had over 2000 likes) from a fan noting, "Probably a good time to mention this, Grant Gustin would've been a much better DCEU Flash." Once the "hitting pause" news hit, though, social media blew up with fans suggesting that Gustin, whose long-running The Flash CW series was recently renewed for a ninth season, should take over the role. One fan tweeted, "The best time to make Grant Gustin the DCEU Flash was years ago, the 2nd best time is now." That tweet has received over 1500 likes as of this writing.
A number of fans stressed how Gustin deserved the bigger budget of a film, like this popular tweet that said, "give it to grant gustin please god that man is so good he deserves better than a show with a $5 budget."
There were also plenty of popular joke tweets, like one reusing the classic meme of Gustin posing in front of a grave, as well as a few jokes about how Gustin has been playing the Flash for so long that he might not actually want to commit to a movie franchise.
There were also some fans who called out the discussion as being in poor taste considering Miller's mental health struggles. One tweet points out, "Person that's an actor that going through mental issues: DC fans: 'HeY, WhAt iF wE rEcAsT tHeM aS GrAnT GuStIn.'"
