A new Catwoman: Hunted clip shows off the master burglar's rapport with the anime film's no-nonsense version of Batwoman.
The clip shows Catwoman parachuting out of a plane prior to a heist. While Selina enjoys the new experience, Batwoman expresses her continued suspicion of the thief and her real motives, and reminds her that she can't actually fly. The video features the voices of Elizabeth Gillies (Victorious, Dynasty) as the titular antihero and Stephanie Beatriz (Encanto, Brooklyn 99) as Batwoman. The clip also features the voice of The Walking Dead's Lauren Cohan, who plays Julia Pennyworth.
The new animated movie focuses on Catwoman as she attempts to steal a priceless jewel. Unfortunately for the slinky thief, her latest heist makes her the target of the crime syndicate Leviathan and a team of supervillains, including Solomon Grundy, the Black Mask, and Talia al Ghul. Kyle decides to form a reluctant partnership with Batwoman as she attempts to take the team of villains down, while also treating herself to some expensive rewards while she's at it.
Hunted is directed by anime industry veteran Shunsuke Terasawa, who previously worked on Dragon Ball Z: Broly and multiple entries in the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise. The movie was written by Young Justice co-creator Greg Weisman. In an interview with CBR, producer Ethan Spaulding discussed the team's desire to put Catwoman into an anime-style adventure, saying "That was from the beginning, the idea that this would be an anime. Batman: Ninja started the ball rolling and this was the opportunity to explore a DC character through an anime lens. Let's see a very Japanese take on characters that we know. I think it's a great idea, and with anime super-popular right now, I think this is a good fit."
Catwoman's latest adventure is inspired by the heists of anime's most famous thief, Lupin the Third. When asked about the similarities between Hunted and the Monkey Punch's classic anime and manga series, Spaulding said, "It's very retro. You mentioned Lupin III -- that dynamic of a jewel thief being pursued by Interpol -- a lot of that came from Greg Weisman's script. He saw from the get-go that that could have fun in that aspect and it's in the character too."
Produced by DC, Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, the feature-length anime-inspired film is set for release on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray and digital formats on Feb. 8.
