A new piece of official Dragon Ball merchandise allows fans to recreate an iconic villain's defeat and take a nap at the same time.
According to Comic Natalie, Premium Bandai is now accepting pre-orders for a plush set based on the scene when Master Roshi seals King Piccolo away in an unusual container; the set features a blanket, which is 115cm from corner to corner and shows the villainous Namekian trapped in the Evil Containment Wave. The bundle also includes a rice cooker pillow, which stands at 28cm in diameter and 33cm tall, has the special ofuda talisman across the front. The blanket fits easily inside the pillow.
The original Dragon Ball manga by Akira Toriyama was published in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1984 to 1995, producing 519 individual chapters. The story was adapted into two anime series produced by Toei Animation: Dragon Ball, which first ran from 1986 to 1989, and Dragon Ball Z, which initially aired from 1989 to 1996. The manga and anime series have subsequently inspired a plethora of spinoffs, sequels, theme park attractions, companion books, comics, video games and even a poorly-received live-action movie.
The latest film in the Dragon Ball franchise, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, was scheduled to hit theaters in Japan on April 22, with a North American release to follow this summer. However, it and several other popular anime series like One Piece, Digimon: Ghost Game and Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai have been indefinitely delayed due to the Toei Animation hack that occurred earlier this month.
According to Dragon Ball series producer Akio Iyoku, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero will heavily focus on Goku's firstborn son and his alien mentor. "It's been almost 40 years since the start of the series but never before has there been a work with so much heart," the producer stated. "This time, the story is centered around the master-disciple duo of Gohan and Piccolo." Promotional material for the movie has revealed that other fan-favorite characters like Android 18, Trunks, Goten and Broly will make appearances as well.
Premium Bandai's blanket and pillow set is available for pre-order until May 9 and is scheduled to start shipping in September. It retails for 8,800 yen (about $72.00 USD).
