Bleach Teases Reveal of New Anime Season’s Opening

Bleach is planning to cap off the year in style, offering fans from around the world a preliminary look into the upcoming anime adaptation of its "Thousand-Year Blood War" arc this Jump Festa 2022.

The official Twitter page for Bleach announced new visuals and a trailer set for debut on Super Stage EX 'Bleach.' The event is scheduled to premiere on Dec. 18, hosted by actor Yoshiyuki Hirai from America Zarigani. Weekly Shonen Jump editor Shu Murakoshi will also make an appearance, alongside series voice actors Masakazu Morita (Ichigo Kurosaki), Fumiko Orikasa (Rukia Kuchiki) and Noriaki Sugiyama (Uryuu Ishida).

The announcement has been met with excitement from fans of the long-running series, as well as hopes that a new trailer for the anime won't be the only release during the event. There's speculation concerning the possibility of the Bleach manga after creator Tite Kubo published a new chapter to celebrate Bleach's 20th anniversary. Fans hope that Jump Festa 2022 will also provide the perfect platform for the manga's official return to serialization.

The original Bleach manga began publication in 2001 and concluded in 2016, running for 74 volumes. Its anime adaptation launched in 2004 and became one of the Big Three franchises of the industry, together with Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto and Eiichiro Oda's One Piece. Since its conclusion, it has received a spinoff series BURN THE WITCH centered on the witch duo Noel Niihashi and Ninny Spangcole.

Bleach still has plenty of chapters ready to introduce the world of Soul Society. The story begins with Ichigo Kurosaki, a high-schooler who just so happens to be able to see ghosts. His life is thrown into turmoil when he meets Rukia Kuchiki, a Soul Reaper charged with escorting souls to the next world, as well as safeguarding them from monstrous beasts called Hollows. When Rukia is injured in a battle with a Hollow, Ichigo is left to take up her sword in order to protect his family.

Bleach is available for streaming on Netflix, Hulu and Crunchyroll. Its manga is available to read on VIZ Media's Shonen Jump website, with physical copies available in most major retailers. For fans hungry for more information on the anime's upcoming season, Shonen Jump Festa 2022 will broadcast Super Stage EX 'Bleach' Dec. 18 at 6 p.m. JST.
