Black Rock Shooter Reveals New Trailer for Disney+ Anime

A new trailer has dropped for the upcoming Disney+ anime series, Black Rock Shooter: Dawn Fall.

The action-packed trailer provides fans with a sneak peek into some of the anime's key moments. It primarily depicts the series' main character, Black Rock Shooter, as she wakes up one day in a world ravaged by a nefarious artificial intelligence named Artemis, with no memory of her identity or past. Saddled with the mission of destroying the orbital elevator Artemis is building between Earth and the moon, Black Rock Shooter fights her way through heavily armed machines and enemy combatants with her iconic cannon, while trying to puzzle together the pieces of her mysterious past.

Based on characters created by illustrator Ryohei Fuke, Black Rock Shooter is a Japanese media franchise that has spawned various video games, songs, manga series, original video animations (OVAs) and anime television series. Although each piece of media is set in its own insulated universe, the franchise largely centers around the eponymous Black Rock Shooter, an enigmatic girl with long black hair. She harbors a burning blue eye and a mighty cannon capable of gunning down even the strongest of foes with its powerful shots that whiz through the air at high speed. Several other characters appear in more than one piece of Black Rock Shooter's media as well, such as the villainous Dead Master and Mato Kuroi, a cheerful high school girl who serves as the protagonist of the 2009 OVA and the 2012 anime television series.

Black Rock Shooter: Dawn Fall marks the second anime television series of the franchise, with the first being an eight-episode series simply titled Black Rock Shooter, produced by studio Ordet (Wake Up, Girls!) and directed by Shinobu Yoshioka (Toradora!) that ran from Feb. 2 to March 22, 2012. Unlike its predecessor, the 2022 anime series is produced by Bibury Animation Studios (The Quintessential Quintuplets 2) and Bibury Animation CG, with Tensho serving as director (Azur Lane) and Makoto Fukami (Psycho Pass) handling the series' scripts along with Ryo Yoshigami. Masayuki Nonaka (Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic) and Yo Nakagawa (Azur Lane) also serve as Black Rock Shooter: Dawn Fall's character designers and chief animation directors.

The upcoming series also boasts an impressive Japanese voice cast, with talent such as Saori Hayami (Kakegurui: Compulsive Gambler) playing Dead Master, Megumi Han (Fruits Basket) playing Strength and Yui Ishikawa of Violet Evergarden and Attack on Titan fame voicing Black Rock Shooter herself.

Black Rock Shooter: Dawn Fall will premiere on April 3, 2022 and will be available to stream on Disney+.
