When your songwriting credits include Excision, Zeds Dead, and NGHTMRE, you could easily rest on your laurels. But ASH HALO – the Canadian duo of Sara and Dave – isn’t here for easy. Their self-released single “Vice Versa,” crafted with fellow northerner Save Yourself, is a genre-blending love letter to electronic music’s endless possibilities.
The track weaves reggae warmth through hardstyle punch, wraps melodic bass around trap foundations, and somehow makes it all feel effortless. It’s fitting that a song about relationship dynamics comes from a duo who knows them intimately – Sara and Dave’s partnership, both on and off stage, infuses every moment with lived experience rather than studio calculation.
Save Yourself (aka Cody Patzer) proves the perfect collaborator, bringing the same boundary-pushing energy that landed him on Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Records. Fresh off destroying crowds at Bass Canyon and Lost Lands, ASH HALO’s using this self-release to launch an ambitious monthly release schedule through spring 2025. If “Vice Versa” is any indication, the bass scene better buckle up – this power couple’s just getting started.
