Attack on Titan: The Jaegers Reunite in Latest Final Season – Part 2 Art

Eren, Zeke and Grisha Jaeger come together in the latest artwork from Attack on Titan: The Final Season - Part 2.

The new illustrations were released by MAPPA, the animation studio behind the show's fourth and final season. The first image is a key frame from the Episode 79 of the series, and shows a newborn Eren being held by his father, Grisha. The second piece shows portraits of the father and son, along with Eren's half-brother, Zeke. The illustration was created by animation director Masaru Kitao, who previously worked on shows such as High School of the Dead and Death Note. Kitao joined the production of the series for the second half of The Final Season.

The Jaeger family portraits are the fourth set of art released by MAPPA since the series' return; previous images included a look at the anti-Marleyan rebel Yelena and a nostalgic look at a young Connie and Sasha. MAPPA previously announced that it would release new art from the series on a weekly basis, to coincide with the premiere of each new episode in the new half-season.

The first half of Attack on Titan's last season debuted in early 2021. The highly anticipated final run of episodes begin airing on Jan. 9. The original manga came to an end in 2021 with a divisive conclusion, but that apparently hasn't dampened excitement for the animated series' finale: demand for the first episode of its current half-season was so high that it overwhelmed Crunchyroll's servers and briefly pulled the anime streaming service offline. In the United States, the the final half of the last season is being simulcast on Crunchyroll, Funimation and Hulu, with all three services streaming new episodes on a weekly basis shortly after they are broadcast in Japan.

Debuting in 2009, Attack on Titan has become one of the most successful anime and manga franchises of all time, with author Hajime Isayama's original manga achieving a worldwide circulation of over 100 million copies. A critically acclaimed anime adaptation premiered in 2014 and was originally produced by Wit Studio (Ranking of Kings, Vivy: Fluorite Eyes' Song) but production was shifted over to studio MAPPA (Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuri!! on Ice) for The Final Season. Past seasons of the anime are available on a variety of streaming services, including Crunchyroll and Funimation. Isayama's complete manga is now available in English from Kodansha USA.
