For followers of the anime who have not been keeping up with the manga by Hajime Isayama, the characters on display in this image might be rather surprising. In the place of the protagonists followed thus far, there are instead a small group of new, seemingly younger characters, none of whom have been previously seen in the show. Earlier released images have already hinted at drastic changes set to arrive in the final season, with many of the well-known characters looking quite different.
Since the beginning of the countdown, more production staff illustrations have been released to celebrate the impending arrival of the story's conclusion. These have included images of characters far more familiar to fans of the show. However, they have also continued to highlight the prominent role of the newer stars.
