A trailer for Alice to Therese no Maboroshi Kojo, Studio MAPPA's newest film has dropped.
As reported by Anime News Network, anime studio MAPPA (Attack on Titan: The Final Season, Jujutsu Kaisen, Dororo) revealed a two-minute teaser trailer for its upcoming original anime film Alice to Therese no Maboroshi Kojo (Alice and Therese's Illusory Factory). The trailer offers a first look at the film's surreal and haunting atmosphere and its fantastical theme of young people fighting against fate. While there is currently no release date, MAPPA stated that its staff is hard at work developing the film.
Although much of the film is still shrouded in mystery, MAPPA did announce that Mari Okada is both directing the film and writing its screenplay. Okada has worked as a screenwriter for critically acclaimed anime like Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, The Anthem of the Heart, A Lull in the Sea and Kiznaiver. She also previously wrote and directed the anime film Maquia - When the Promised Flower Blooms. Okada described her new film Alice to Therese no Maboroshi Kojo as a "first-love fantasia story" about youths using love as a weapon to fight against fate.
The rest of Alice to Therese no Maboroshi Kojo's staff includes Okada's former Maquia colleagues Tadashi Hiramatsu (Twittering Birds Never Fly: The Clouds Gather, His and Her Circumstances), Yuriko Ishii (A Lull in the Sea, Her Blue Sky) and Kazuki Higashiji (Angel Beats, A Lull in the Sea). Hiramatsu will work as assistant director, Ishii will serve as both character designer and chief animation director and Higashiji will work as art director. Composer Masaru Yokoyama (Fruits Basket, Horimiya, Your Lie in April) will write the film's score.
