The first full trailer for the highly anticipated fourth season of Overlord has finally arrived and it includes a premiere window for the new season.
The trailer, which was originally revealed during a special live-stream event and is now available on Kadokawa's official YouTube channel, features an intense musical score and includes glimpses of more of the brutal, deadly combat that the anime series is well-known for. Moreover, it reveals that Overlord Season 4 will make its debut sometime in July.
The ongoing Overlord light novel series by Kugane Maruyama and so-bin was independently serialized online, starting in 2010, until the story was eventually acquired by publisher Enterbrain. Over 2.5 million copies of the light novels have been sold globally, and according to the creators, the series will conclude after the seventeenth volume.
Set in the year 2126, Overlord tells the story of Momonga, a veteran and passionate player of YGGDRASIL, a deep dive massively multiplayer online role-playing game. When the game is scheduled to be permanently shut down, Momonga refuses to sign off and subsequently finds himself trapped within YGGDRASIL alongside its many NPCs, who are developing sentience. With no other choice, he assumes the identity Ainz Ooal Gown and sets out to see if anyone else from the real world is trapped with him.
The first season of Overlord's anime adaptation premiered in September 2015 with Seasons 2 and 3 debuting in January 2018 and July 2018 respectively. The series is produced by studio Madhouse (One-Punch Man) with Naoyuki Itou (No Guns Life) serving as director, Yukie Sugawara (Sword Art Online) supervising the scripts and Satoshi Tasaki (Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals) designing the characters.
Several cast members from the first three seasons are reprising their roles in Overlord Season 4, including Satoshi Hino (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba) as Momonga/Ainz, Emiri Kato (Girls' Frontline) as Aura Bella Fiora, Masayuki Katou (Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma: The Fifth Plate) as Demiurge, Kenta Miyake (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) as Cocytus and Yumi Uchiyama (Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blood Orphans) as Mare Bello Fiore.
The new trailer isn't the only way Overlord fans can get a preview of what the new season has in store; updated character designs for Ainz, Albedo, Shalltear, Cocytus, Demiurge and Aura have been released online as well. Poster versions of the designs were available during a Twitter giveaway last month.
Overlord's first three seasons are available to stream on Crunchyroll and Funimation.
