Dragon Ball fans in the United States will soon have their chance to embark on a Symphonic Adventure through the series' history.
Per Crunchyroll, Overlook Events announced that it is bringing the Dragon Ball Symphonic Adventure concert to the United States. The event features a 60-piece orchestra performing Shunsuke Kikuchi's classic score from Dragon Ball's various anime adaptations. The orchestra will also be accompanied by live vocal performances for the series' themes. The symphony will kick off its tour of the United States with a show in Los Angeles' Microsoft Theater on May 21. Additional tour dates and locations will be announced later. Tickets for the first showing will go up for pre-sale on March 10 at 10:00 AM PST.
"As great enthusiasts of Akira Toriyama's saga, we spent long months carefully selecting and analyzing each scene to draw out the essence of the Dragon Ball story," Overlook Events founder Cedric Littardi said, adding, "Each scene was thoughtfully set to new orchestrations of the classic music to align with our ‘Narrative Symphonic Experience’ concept."
The concert was previously planned to make its North American debut in 2020, but had to be postponed due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing lockdowns.
2022 is shaping up to be an eventful year for Dragon Ball fans. The long-running series' next movie, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, will be released in Japan this April, with a North American premiere to follow sometime this summer. The new movie is the first feature-length release in the series to be entirely animated using CG and will feature a story that concentrates on Gohan and Piccolo, who will debut a new form in the new movie. Series producer Akio Iyoku has also teased that there will be more animated Dragon Ball this year besides the movie, which has lead some fans to believe that the Dragon Ball Super anime may soon make its return. The series originally concluded its broadcast run in 2018 and the manga has since published plenty of content that has yet to receive an animated adaptation.
Dragon Ball was originally created by Akira Toriyama and was first published in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump in 1984. The series is the third best-selling manga of all time, with an estimated 300 million copies in circulation worldwide. The series has continued to this day with Dragon Ball Super, a sequel manga that is supervised by Toriyama and is drawn by his successor, an artist known as Toyotarou. Both the original manga and the sequel series are available in English from VIZ Media.
