Fans eagerly awaiting more of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime can tide themselves over with the new intro video to the Phantom Parade mobile game.
The game's opening sequence features many of the key characters from the main anime and manga series, including central protagonist Yuji Itadori, the taciturn Megumi Fushiguro, and the recipient of Crunchyroll's Best Girl Award for 2021, Nobara Kugisaki. The intro video also features the mobile game's two entirely brand-new protagonists, Saki Rindo and Kaito Yuki, who are first year sorcerers-in-training at Jujutsu High's branch school in Fukuoka. Saki is voiced by Rika Satou, who video game fans may recognize as the voice of Makoto Niijima in Atlus' acclaimed RPG Persona 5, while Kaito is portrayed by Kotaro Nishiyama, who previously voiced Kazuhito Narita in Haikyuu!!. The two new students are also joined by a previously unseen Jujutsu High teacher, Kensuke Nagino, who is voiced by Detective Conan's Rikiya Koyama. The opening is set to a new song from Eve, the musician who performed the first opening theme song for the Jujutsu Kaisen anime series.
Phantom Parade is set for release on iOS and Android devices in 2022. The game is being developed by Sumzap, a mobile game developer that also participated in the production of the multimedia project D Cide Traumerei, which had an anime adaptation that aired in 2021. While the game is mostly centered on the Fukuoka branch of Jujutsu High, players can recruit characters from the school's other locations, including Yuji and upperclassmen such as the Cursed weapon specialist Maki Zenin or the quiet but powerful Toge Inumaki.
The new intro video should help keep fans satiated until the March 18 premiere of Jujutsu Kaisen 0 in the United States and Canada. The prequel movie premiered in Japan on Dec. 24 with the second-best opening weekend in Japanese box office history, and it has since gone on to become one of the top ten highest grossing anime films of all time in the region. The movie is set one year before the events of the first season of the show, and introduces a new protagonist: Yuta Okkotsu, a young man who is haunted by his childhood best friend, Rika, whose spirit has been transformed into a violent and dangerous Curse.
In addition to the movie, the producers of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime series recently confirmed that a second season of the supernatural action series is in development, and is scheduled to premiere sometime in 2023.
Jujutsu Kaisen was originally created by Gege Akutami. The original manga is available in English from VIZ Media, while the complete first season of the anime series is available for streaming on Crunchyroll and Funimation.
