Netflix released a new trailer for Bubble.
The new trailer shows off more of the anime movie's gorgeous animation and is set to the song "Bubble feat. Uta," by Japanese singer/songwriter Eve, who previously performed Jujutsu Kaisen's original theme song. Expectations for Bubble are already extremely high, as the film is being produced by an all-star staff of some of the anime industry's most celebrated creators. The movie features character designs by Death Note artist Takeshi Ohbata, a score by Promare composer Hiroyuki Sawano, and a script from Madoka Magica co-creator Gen Urobuchi. The project is being helmed by director Tetsuro Araki, who is best known for directing the first three seasons of Attack on Titan, as well as Death Note's anime adaptation and Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. The movie is being produced at Wit Studio, the animation company behind the critically acclaimed Ranking of Kings and one of 2021's most lauded original anime productions, Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song.
Bubble is set in a very colorful, post-apocalyptic version of Tokyo. After the metropolis is flooded by a rain of gravity-defying bubbles, it is abandoned by most of the world and becomes the battlefield for a number of territorial gangs, whose youthful combatants use parkour and the area's altered physics to perform death-defying stunts. The movie tells the story of Hibiki, a particularly reckless member of one of these gangs, whose life is saved by Uta, a girl with strange powers that are somehow connected to the bubbles. The pair are brought together by mysterious sound that no one else besides the two of them can hear.
The movie stars Jun Shison as Hibiki. Shison previously starred in the live-action adaptations of Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day and The Way of the Househusband. Bubble will also feature the acting debut of Japanese pop singer Riria, who will portray Uta and will also perform the movie's ending theme, "Ja ne, Mata ne." (Roughly translated as "Bye, See you later.") Riria was personally selected for the role by director Araki. The film will also feature the talents of voice actors Mamoru Miyano (Death Note, Chihayafuru), Tasuku Hatanaka (My Hero Academia) and Yuuki Kaji (Eren Jaeger in Attack on Titan).
Bubble is scheduled to premiere internationally as a Netflix streaming exclusive on April 28, and will make its premiere in Japanese theaters on May 13.
