Haikyu!! to Release New Manga for 10th Anniversary

A new chapter of Haikyuu!! is on the way.

Weekly Shonen Jump announced that a new, one-shot chapter of Haikyuu!! will be released soon to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the popular sports manga. The new chapter will be written and drawn by original creator Haruichi Furudate and will reveal what Hinata and the rest of the Karasuno High volleyball team are now doing in 2022. Shonen Jump did not announce a premiere date for the new chapter.

The new manga chapter is just one of many new releases that are planned for Haikyuu!! throughout its anniversary year. In addition to the new story, an anniversary book that looks back at the entire history of the series will also be released, as well as a full-color edition of the original manga, which will only be released digitally. The series is also receiving a radio drama, which will feature a new story that was written by Furudate.

Haikyuu!! premiered in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump in 2012 and concluded its serialization in 2020. The series tells the story of Shoyo Hinata, a short but athletic young man who is inspired to take up the sport of volleyball after he witnesses a similarly small-in-stature player excel at the game. Unfortunately for Hinata, his high school's volleyball team has fallen on hard times, and is now regarded as a joke by most of its competitors. Things begin to change, however, when Tobio Kageyama, a young volleyball prodigy and Hinata's former rival, joins the team.

Furudate's story of an underdog volleyball team has become the breakout sports manga of the last decade. The series has received widespread critical acclaim, having won the prestigious Shogakukan Manga Award, and has received praise from professional volleyball players for Furudate's portrayal of the sport. The manga has also been a massive commercial success, achieving a worldwide circulation of over 50 million copies. An anime adaptation was produced by Production I.G., the anime studio behind Last Exile and Fena: Pirate Princess, which premiered in 2014. The anime has received similar acclaim and popularity, and has continued for multiple seasons and compilation movies. Its fourth season premiered in 2020, when it became one of Crunchyroll's top 10 most streamed anime for the year.

The complete original manga series is available in English from VIZ Media. The anime series is available for streaming through Crunchyroll, and has been licensed for home video release by Sentai Filmworks.
