The Jujutsu Kaisen light novels will receive an official English localization.
Publisher VIZ Media announced that it will bring both volumes of the popular shonen manga's novelized side stories to North America. The first volume, which has now been given the official English title of Summer of Ashes, Autumn of Dusk, will be released in the fall of 2022. The novels are written by author Ballad Kitaguni and feature illustrations by Jujutsu Kaisen's original creator, Gege Akutami.

Each of the two volumes contains five short stories that expand on the world and characters of Jujutsu Kaisen. The first volume includes a story where Yuji and Megumi follow their teacher, the powerful sorcerer Satoru Gojo, around as he enjoys the unique experiences of Tokyo's otaku-focused Akihabara district, as well as a story that centers on the villainous Curses Mahito, Jogo and Hanami, as they try to find a location that would be suitable for their secret base. The second volume features stories focused on the characters of Toge Inumaki, Mechamaru, and Nobara Kugisaki, who was recently named Best Girl at the most recent Crunchyroll Anime Awards.
The new Jujutsu Kaisen novels were just one of several titles VIZ Media announced on Feb. 14. The manga localization company also announced English releases of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba's light novels, as well as the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure spinoff Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe. VIZ also handles the translation and distribution of the main Jujutsu Kaisen manga in North America.
Jujutsu Kaisen tells the story of Yuji Itadori, an empathetic but surprisingly strong high school student who accidentally becomes the vessel for the soul of Ryomen Sukuna, an ancient sorcerer known for his cruelty and overwhelming power. Yuji is brought to Jujutsu High, a special high school for sorcerers, with the hope that he will learn how to control Sukuna's powers and use them to fight against Curses, which are hostile spirits born from the negative emotions of humanity.
The original manga was created by Akutami in 2017. The series has rapidly become one of the most popular anime and manga franchises in the world, with over 60 million copies in circulation globally. An anime adaptation, produced by studio MAPPA, completed its first season in 2021 and recently announced that its second season would premiere in 2023. The franchise's first movie, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, premiered in Japan in December and is scheduled to be released internationally next March.
The manga is available in English in both print and digital formats from VIZ Media, while the anime series is available for streaming on Crunchyroll and Funimation.
