WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest Season 2 Episode 2, "Burning Light," now streaming on Funimation.
In the last episode, the anticipated 2nd season premiered with the gang of Arifureta on their way to Myu's homeland after Hajime's childhood friend Kaori joined the team. While on their way, they meet a man dying of mana overload. Being a priest, Kaori successfully healed the sick man, who turned out to be the deputy of the Duke of Ankaji, a nearby town suffering from a lack of water and people dying of mana overload. He pleaded for their help, and they agreed. In order to heal the people of Ankaji, the gang had to harvest Stillstone within the Grand Gruen Volcano. Thus started another adventure.
Before they set off into the volcano, Yue and Hajime used their powers to set up a lake for the people of Ankaji and Hajime defeated a creature responsible for poisoning their water supply, ensuring that they have clean drinking water. Kaori insisted that she stays back to help nurse the people of Ankaji along with Myu. Thus, Hajime, Shea, and Tio set off to retrieve Stillstone from the volcano. After realizing a lot of the Stillstone has already been mined, the gang dived deeper than anyone has ever gone in order to harvest enough to save the town. Upon descending, they wandered into the great labyrinth of the volcano.
The intense heat started to affect Yue first. They immediately headed into a nearby cave and cool off using Yue's ice powers and Tio's wind powers. As they recovered from the heat, Tio came to a realization that each labyrinth had a design that made challengers explore different aspects of their own power. When they were thoroughly cooled down, they traveled down the stream of lava by boat into the moat that contains the Liberator's hideout.
They saw that the walls had at least 100 Stillstone gems, but they also knew that the final guardian should be somewhere nearby. Eventually, it revealed itself to be multiple snake heads within the lava moat, and the team got to work on defeating each one. Once they thought they were done with the last of the snakeheads, Shea excitedly proclaimed that they've cleared the labyrinth. Suddenly, a huge beam came from above, seemingly vaporizing Hajime as the rest of the team called out his name in horror.
Will Hajime make it out alive? From the reactions of the rest of the team, it doesn't look too promising. Still, he has been undefeated up until this point. Viewers will be able to find out as Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Greatest airs every Thursday on Funimation.
