A new Jujutsu Kaisen event in Japan is promising to make a "major announcement" about the series.
Details about the new event were announced via the anime series' Twitter account and its official website. A special screening of the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 prequel movie will be held on Feb. 12 at Toho Theaters Hibiya in Tokyo, Japan. The screening will be accompanied by a panel featuring the anime's voice cast, including Megumi Ogata, who voices the movie's protagonist, Yuta Okkutsu; Kana Hanizawa, who plays the role the Rika Orimoto; and Yuichi Nakamura, who portrays the playful but immensely powerful Satoru Gojo in both the film and the TV series. While no specific hints were given, the event is promising a "major announcement" about the franchise during the panel.

Speculation about what the announcement could be has mostly been centered around the second season of the anime series, which was recently teased by a Japanese TV network executive. International fans may want to temper expectations, however: in early January, the producers of the Demon Slayer anime similarly teased "huge" events for the series in 2022. Fans assumed that an extension of the show's second season or even a new movie were going to be announced, but the announcement ended up being and an art exhibition and a fan festival in Tokyo.
The new announcement certainly has fans excited, but the primary reason that the panel is being put together is to celebrate the blockbuster success of Jujutsu Kaisen 0, which was released in Japan on Dec. 24. The movie premiered to the second-best opening weekend in Japanese film history and has already earned 9.3 billion yen (approximately $81 million USD) within its first month of release. The film is already outpacing Japan's highest grossing movie of 2021, Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0: Thrice Upon a Time, which earned 10 billion yen (about $89.5 million USD) during its entire theatrical run.
Crunchyroll recently confirmed that it will handle the film's release in the United States and Canada. The highly anticipated prequel movie will premiere in over 1500 theaters on March 18, with tickets being available for pre-sale on Feb. 25. The film will be available with its original Japanese audio track with subtitles, or with an English dub. Special IMAX screenings are also planned.
Jujutsu Kaisen was originally created by manga artist and writer Gege Akutami in 2018. The series is currently one of the most popular anime and manga franchises in the world, with Akutami's original work achieving a circulation of over 60 million copies in just under four years. The manga is available in English from VIZ Media, while the anime series is available for streaming on Crunchyroll and Funimation.
