Tokyo Revengers' delinquents are getting all dressed up for the series' new art exhibtion.
As reported by tourism service Japan Travel, he Tokyo Revengers Exhibition, a new pop-up art gallery showcasing work from Ken Wakui's hit manga and anime series, is scheduled to open on Jan. 29. A new illustration drawn by Wakui himself has been released to promote the gallery's upcoming debut, which shows the various members of the Tokyo Manji Gang, including leader Manjiro "Mikey" Sano, second-in-command Drakken, and the series' main protagonist, Takemichi, all clad in some very elegant suits.
The exhibition will be held, appropriately enough, in Tokyo, at the Sunshine City Mall from Jan. 29 until Feb. 4. The event will feature more art from Wakui, and will also sell limited-edition merchandise, including acrylic character stands, prints, plushies and jackets, that will only be available at the exhibition. Fans who can't make it to Tokyo will get a second chance to visit the gallery when it opens in Osaka in March. Attendees will also be able to enter a contest to win the original copy of Wakui's exhibition art.
The hit series tells the story of Takemichi Hanagaki, a burn-out in his mid-twenties who is devastated to find out that his childhood sweetheart Hinata Tachibana, has been murdered. After being pushed in front of an oncoming train, Takemichi wakes up 12 years in the past, in the body of his teenage self, with all of his memories and knowledge of the coming years intact. Determined to change the future, Takemichi falls in with the Tokyo Manji Gang and tries to alter past events in order to save Hinata's life.
Tokyo Revengers premiered in 2017, and in less than four years, it has already achieved a worldwide circulation of over 50 million copies. An anime adaptation, produced by The Heroic Legend of Arslan studio Liden Films, aired its first season in 2021. The anime is scheduled to return with an adaptation of the Christmas Showdown arc. A premiere date for the show's continuation has yet to be announced, but most of the cast and crew of the first season are expected to reprise their roles for the new continuation, with the exception of voice actor Tatsuhisa Suzuki, who exited the series following a public infidelity scandal. Suzuki's character, Ken "Draken" Ryuguji, will be recast.
In addition to the anime and manga, Tokyo Revengers has also found success with a Japanese live-action movie. The series' first movie was incredibly well-received when it was released in Japan last summer and became the highest grossing live-action film in the country for 2021.
Ken Wakui's manga is available digitally from Kodansha USA and will be released in print by Seven Seas Entertainment. The Tokyo Revengers anime is available for streaming via Crunchyroll. An international release for the live-action adaptation has not been announced at this time.
