One of the main themes in Netflix's DOTA: Dragon's Blood has been betrayal. Protagonist Davion felt it when Kaden and the other Dragon Knights took him hostage at the end of Book 1, with his peers focusing more on the dragon, Slyrak, bonded to him than the human host itself. In addition, the antagonist Selemene backstabbed the Invoker by leaving their daughter Filomena to die, which later caused the latter to betray Davion's fellowship and ally with Terrorblade. With Book 2 due soon, however, the second incident may foreshadow the show's scariest betrayal, irreparably damaging the world.
DOTA: Dragon's Blood's Book 2 trailer showcased the terror to come, with Davion trying to convince the knights to partner with other dragons, as well as the Dark Moon Order under Mirana. He knows the Invoker will be causing mass destruction -- all as part of his quest to have the world remade -- so this is the only solution to protect all they know.
At the end of Book 1, Invoker seemingly partnered with Terrorblade by granting him the souls of the Great Dragons, which would allow the demon to alter reality to his will. With Selemene as their prisoner, Invoker wants this new world to have Filomena brought back to life, which fully explains why he made his heel turn.
However, due to his magic and subterfuge, Invoker may opt to kill Terrorblade when he gets what he wants. Thus with Filomena back at his side, he'd have a world not brimming with fire and ash, all so they could partake in the happy life he plotted before his daughter got sick.
But Invoker being a puppet master is a major gamble, which could backfire as Terrorblade is not one to trifle with. More so, the latter kickstarted everything in DOTA: Dragon's Blood by possessing a human to kill a dragon, thus beginning the journey that would bring Slyrak out of hiding in Book 1. Terrorblade clearly laid a trap to harness Slyrak's soul, so now he'll need new bait as he adapts. This could result in a game where he has Invoker thinking he has the upper hand, creating the war that'd bring Davion/Slyrak to him. This is hinted at by the scene in the trailer where Invoker is bringing Vahdrak, the Chaos Dragon, to life.
This beast would be the key to Invoker defeating Terrorblade, but at the same time, Vahdrak's soul would give Terrorblade the ultimate key to raze and reset the world. It would also help strengthen Terrorblade to claim Slyrak, a dragon he couldn't take down before. This frames an epic chess game, which would fit the events of DOTA: Dragon's Blood so far.
After all, the Invoker played Davion and the elves, laying down the false prophecy that allowed him the lotus flowers to take Selemene captive. Therefore, it would be ironic if the weapon Invoker was planning to use in Vahdrak was then appropriated to break the mage's plan. This would be poetic, dark karma because as Terrorblade has hinted throughout, he sees all and knows all from his hellish realm -- especially Invoker's arrogance in thinking he could trick the demon.
Book 2 of DOTA: Dragon's Blood is slated for release Jan. 18 on Netflix.
