Funimation has announced the first group of anime that it will stream during its Winter 2022 season.
The streaming and anime distribution company announced its new slate of anime series on its website. Funimation will kick off the new year with Attack on Titan: The Final Season Part 2, the long-awaited conclusion to Hajime Isayama's tense fantasy thriller. A subtitled simulcast will begin on Jan. 9, with a dubbed version to come later. The season will also see the continuation of several popular on-going series, including more episodes of Demon Slayer Season 2's Entertainment District arc, and the on-going adventure of the Straw Hat Pirates in One Piece, which will enter its 23rd year on the air in 2022. In addition to the return of on-going shonen hits, the season will also feature the return of the popular vampire anime The Case Study of Vanitas on Jan. 14, as well as the second season of the isekai series Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest, which will premiere on Jan. 13.
Several new shows will make their debut this season as well. Sabikui Bisco, a colorful new action series about a young man who must journey across a post-apocalyptic wasteland in order to stop a mysterious rust that is slowly consuming everything, will premiere on Jan. 10. On the same day, the first episode of Tribe Nine, the new original series from the creators of Danganronpa, will also premiere. Those shows will be followed up with the premiere of The Genius Prince's Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt, a new fantasy comedy series about a prince who wants to retire early but accidentally keeps achieving great things for his struggling nation, which will stream its first episode on Jan. 11.
Another possible highlight from the season is My Dress-Up Darling, the new anime adaptation of Shinichi Fukuda's popular manga series. The romantic comedy tells the story of Wakana Gojo, a lonely young man who aspires to be one of country's top craftsmen of hina dolls, a type of traditional Japanese doll that are often displayed as part of a holiday celebration. When Marin Kitagawa, one of the most popular girls at Gojo's school sees him making a doll and notices his skill at sewing, she recruits him to help her fulfill her dream of becoming an anime cosplayer. The series is being produced by Wonder Egg Priority and Spy x Family studio CloverWorks and will premiere on Jan. 8.
Funimation has also confirmed that The Irregular at Magic High School: Reminiscence Arc and the Fate spin-off Lord El-Melloi’s II Case Files {Rail Zeppelin} Grace note -Special Episode- will also be simulcast on its service at some point during the winter season, but a final premiere date for both of those shows have yet to be announced.
