Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero Art Puts Gohan in a Classic Costume

A new poster for Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero has been released, and it shows Gohan returning to one of his most iconic looks.

The new poster was unveiled on the official Dragon Ball website and shows many of the characters that were already confirmed to appear in the film, including the series' main hero Goku, his granddaughter Pan, Vegeta, Piccolo, several members of the new Red Ribbon Army and the movie's two new opponents, the android-like Gamma 1 and Gamma 2. The surprise focus of the poster is Gohan, who was notably absent from the movie's previously released trailers and teaser materials. The son of Goku is shown with a purple costume resembling the outfit he wore during the Cell Saga. The movie's producers have previously said that the movie will feature Piccolo training Gohan's daughter, Pan, in the ways of martial arts, so maybe Gohan will slip back into his Piccolo-inspired purple gi to assist with her training.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero was originally unveiled at this summer's Comic-Con at Home event. The initial teaser for the movie showed Goku in the film's new animation style, which attempts to blend computer generated, 3D models with Akira Toriyama's iconic hand drawn art style. A full trailer was then shown at the New York Comic-Con in October, which introduced the villains of the movie and the mysterious costumed fighters, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2. According to the movie's producers, the movie is set several years after the events of the previous Dragon Ball Super movie, Broly, but still takes place some time before the 28th Budokai Tenkaichi tournament that was seen during the Dragon Ball Z's post timeskip final episode.

The image continues to list the movie's premiere date with a vague "2022" release window. At Comic-Con, the movie's producers acknowledged the long wait that often comes between a Dragon Ball movie's release in Japan and when it becomes available internationally, and they promised to have Super Hero ready for an overseas release as quickly as possible following its Japanese premiere.

Dragon Ball fans looking for an immediate dose of martial arts action can check out the Dragon Ball Super manga in the meantime. The on-going sequel series is rapidly approaching the climax of the well-received Granolah the Survivor arc, and the Dragon Ball website has also released a new preview of the manga's next chapter, which shows the lead-up to the vengeful Cerealean's next major battle. The manga's artist, Toyotarou, also revealed the first full color art of Vegeta's new form, Ultra Ego.
