The third entry in Studio Trigger's Gridman universe will be a movie.
The animation studio announced the new film during a livestream event held by Tsuburaya Productions, the special effects studio that was behind the original Denkou Choujin Gridman tokusatsu (live-action costumed hero) TV show. The movie was revealed with a teaser trailer, which shows an image of the titular hero from the SSSS. Gridman anime alongside the Dynarex combiner mecha from SSSS. Dynazenon. The crossover was first teased following the broadcast of SSSS. Dynazenon's final episode in June.

The teaser trailer also reveals the staff for the movie. Akira Amemiya, who directed both of the Gridman and Dynazenon anime series, and also worked on Gurren Lagann and Kill La Kill, will return to direct the franchise's first theatrical release. The film will also see the return of Keiichi Hasegawa, the scriptwriter of both series, and Masaru Sakamoto, the shows' character designer, who also previously worked on Trigger's Promare and Little Witch Academia. Composer Shiro Sagisu, who provided music for various entries in the Bleach, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Mobile Suit Gundam franchises, will pen the score the still untitled movie.
Both SSSS. Gridman and SSSS. Dynazenon were produced by Studio Trigger, the animation company founded by ex-Gainax employees who previously worked on anime such as FLCL and Gurren Lagann. Each series is loosely based on one of Tsuburaya's live-action shows from the 1990s, the first of which, Denkou Choujin Gridman (sometimes localized as Gridman the Hyper Agent), was heavily rewritten and brought to the United States under the title Super Human Samurai Sybersquad. Both anime series have received widespread critical acclaim for their combination of Trigger's trademark colorful, kinetic action with emotional coming-of-age stories that deal with issues such as bullying and alienation. While the movie will be the first time the show's main heroes cross paths with each other, several supporting characters from Gridman did appear in Dynazenon, linking the two shows into the same shared universe.
In addition to the new animated movie, Tsuburaya also used the livestream to reveal a premiere window and a new poster image for the second season of its Ultraman anime series. That show is produced as a collaboration between the tokusatsu studio and Ghost in the Shell animation houses Production IG and Sola Digital Arts.
Trigger's SSSS. Gridman is available to stream on both Crunchyroll and Funimation, while SSSS. Dynazenon is exclusively available on the latter. Tsuburaya's original Gridman the Hyper Agent is available on Blu-ray and DVD from Mill Creek Entertainment.
