takt op.Destiny: The Trio’s Supposed Ally May Already Be Deeply Corrupt

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for takt op.Destiny Episode 9, "Family -Eroica-," now streaming on Crunchyroll.

The plot thickens in takt op.Destiny. Granted, the plot is simple, predictable and really nothing to write home about, but Episode 9 gives as a little spark of life as it hints at something sinister brewing underneath. Destiny's lack of control over her powers has always been a concern ever since her awakening as a Musicart. But things became gotten more dire when she and Takt realized that their relationship as a Conductor and Musicart is symbiotic -- Takt becomes a little more superhuman and Destiny, who is attuned to the D2s, defeats the monsters. The downside is is that Destiny has to use some of Takt's life force to fight, which corrodes his body.

That's why their only hope lies in the Symphonica, all the way in New York. The Conductors and Musicarts at the Symphonica are responsible for protecting the world against the D2s and they should have a way to help Destiny. Except, the Symphonica has dark secrets of their own that go all the way back to Takt's father's death.

In Episode 8, Schindler was stripped of his Conductor status, but it isn't because he hates music or that he attempted to commit genocide or even that he tried to kill Takt and Destiny -- it's because he interacted with Takt at all. It's even more suspicious that these are orders relayed by the Grand Maestro Sagan, who's always seemed good-natured, he was even relieved to hear that Takt was alive after the disaster that killed his father. But it's exactly because he seems so harmless that he might have the most secrets to hide.

Takt's father was known as the Rooster and it's not a huge leap to conclude that he was a part of the Symphonica when he was still alive. When he was killed by the D2s, it was shown that Heaven and Hell were both at the scene. It's already been revealed that the two of them work together as Schindler's Musicarts and that Hell has the power to draw D2s in, meaning it's more than likely that Kenji Asahina was killed by them under the Symphonica's orders. But the question is why?

Destiny and Takt get examined by Lotte, Cosette and Anna's sister, who works at the Symphonica. Curiously, Destiny asks Lotte where Cosette is inside of her. It was assumed, from last week's episode and ending change, that Cosette was gone forever, but Destiny's inquiry raises more questions about her origins. Could this mean Cosette is still alive? Lotte's reaction is also fishy. After she delivers the bad news to Takt and Destiny about how if they continue fighting, they'll continue draining each other's life force, she apologizes to Cosette.

One theory is that there might be a way to save Cosette but Lotte can't because of her superiors at the Symphonica. For some reason, Sagan is determined that Takt be the one to bring music back to the world and he can't do that without Destiny, even if that means that the two of them (and maybe Cosette, if she is indeed inside Destiny) have to die trying. Perhaps that's also how Takt's father died: he was also tasked by Sagan with saving the world from the D2s.

Because of Hell's powers, the Symphonica are far from the heroes that they are portrayed to be and they may even be the ones who are controlling the D2s. The episode gets even more ominous when Heaven visits Lotte and asks if she has finished tuning Destiny, a dark expression shadowing her face. If Lotte does succeed at tuning Destiny, she and Takt might be in danger from the Symphonica.

Despite the risks, Takt and Destiny are resolved to save music. Although music was banned, Takt knows that it has never completely disappeared. He hopes that he can bring Destiny to the park in New York so she can listen to her namesake. While hopeful, it nonetheless brings a shiver of foreboding: will the two of them be able to return together to listen to Beethoven's Symphony or will only one of them return?
