Have you ever been entranced by something that poses an imminent danger to you? Well Anabel Arroyo’s latest EP is the sonification of an angler fish’s beaming torch luring a defenseless clownfish to its imminent demise.
LABURNŪM Records is a new London-based record label aiming at promoting emerging artists in the galloping, rave and hard techno space.
Hailing from Spain, but making a name for herself in London, Anabel Arroyo’s ‘Lead Me out EP’ is built around three key principles; hypnotic groove, unnerving atmosphere and relentless auditory assault. Both tracks ‘Lead Me Out’ and ‘Wrong Postcode’ put the listener into a bewitched like state where the music is your master, rooting you to the dancefloor.
On remix duty for the EP’s Spearheading track is Cassie Raptor. Cassie’s remix of
‘Lead Me Out’ lives up the ferocity that we know and respect the raptor for. Razor like hats slice through the mix whilst thundering kick drums quake through the soundscape, a sound which earnt Cassie Raptor her Possession Residency.
The second remix is from another French Producer Myka. Myka is also known for his hard dance dj sets but throws an interesting spin on Anabel Arroyo’s ‘Wrong Postcode’. Myka’s percussion is much more upfront about its aggression, leaning away from the hypnotic theme of the original track. Myka also adds some overbearing vocal shouts to accompany the noisy sonic textures that give this remix its unforgiving and raucous sound.
This is just one EP in a whole discography of releases from London born record label Laburnūm. The labels sound pushes 4×4 hard techno whilst also drawing on Neorave aesthetic to create a sonic imprint recognised as Laburnūm. After a series of VA’s, Laburnūm now releases electronic playlists on a monthly basis and prints just 10 transparent dubplates, meaning getting your hands on one of these dubplates is really something special. The EP’s always consist of two originals and two remix’s, and the artist are cherrypicked to showcase the best emerging talent not only from London, but across the globe.
