Donghua Series The Daily Life of the Immortal King Renewed For Third Season

With the second season of The Daily Life of the Immortal King currently airing on Funimation, a third season of the popular slice-of-life donghua (or Chinese animation) series has officially been confirmed.

The announcement was made during the Made By Bilibili 2021-2022 live-stream event, and a teaser trailer is now available on the Chinese's video-sharing platform's official website. The trailer indicates that the new season of The Daily Life of the Immortal King will be brimming with intense, fantastical action.

The original web novel of the same name, by Kuxuan, was first published in 2017. As of June, it has produced 1,880 chapters worth of content with 1,776 of those chapters having been translated into English. The story follows a genius young wizard named Wang Ling, who is virtually unkillable and wields powers far beyond his control: At the tender age of six, he vanquished a terrifying demon. However, when he turns 16 and enters high school, all he wants is to live a normal life, but as challenges continue to arise and new enemies make themselves known, his dreams of a low-key existence seem far out of reach.

The first season of The Daily Life of The Immortal King's donghua adaptation debuted in China on Jan. 18, 2020, and the second season premiered earlier this year on June 30. Haoliners Animation League is the animation studio behind the series with Li Haoling serving as director. Sun Lulu voices Wang Ling and Qian Chen plays Sun Rong.

Funimation released the entirety of Season 1 and began airing episodes from Season 2 on Oct. 29. The streaming service has made an active effort to increase its number of Chinese animation offerings; as such, The Daily Life of the Immortal King isn't its only donghua series. Funimation's catalog also includes Shenying Animation's supernatural BL (Boys' Love) action drama Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire, LX Animation Studio's science fiction action series The Defective and Haoliners Animation League's photography-themed show Link Click.

Moreover, the English dubbed and subtitled versions of Heaven Official's Blessing, a popular BL donghua series about a prince who has been kicked out of heaven several times and the demon king who is enamored by him, are also available on Funimation. The dub's cast includes multiple popular and experienced voice actors like James cheek (One Piece, Assassination Classroom), Wendee Lee (Your Lie in April, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations), Apphia Yu (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a SlimeMy Hero Academia) and Howard Wang (SK8 the Infinity).

The first season of The Daily Life of the Immortal King is also available on Netflix.
