The Way of the Househusband is set to receive a live-action film adaptation that fans can expect to release early in the summer of 2022.
According to Anime News Network, Sony Pictures Entertainment announced on Oct. 3 that a live-action film, inspired by the manga The Way of the Househusband, is currently being produced. The movie's official website reveals that the main cast of the title's last live-action effort will be reprising their roles for the new film.
The Way of the Househusband began as a manga, written and illustrated by Kousuke Oono, which was first serialized in the manga magazine Kurage Bunch in 2018. It follows Tatsu, a former yakuza boss who leaves his life of crime behind to become a househusband. The series has since spawned an anime adaptation produced by studio J.C. Staff and two live-action series: a drama produced by Nippon TV that premiered in October 2020, and a short series, called The Ingenuity of the Househusband, starring Kenjiro Tsuda that premiered in August 2021. The anime and The Ingenuity of the Househusband are both available for streaming on Netflix.
The Way of the Househusband live-action film will be directed by Tochiro Ruto, who previously directed the Nippon TV live-action drama. The cast members reprising their roles include Hiroshi Tamaki as Tatsu, Haruna Kawaguchi as Miku, Jun Shison as Masa, Tamaki Shiratori as Himawari, Naoto Takenaka as Kikujiro Eguchi, Izumi Inamori as Ibari, Kenichi Takito as Torajiro, Yuta Furukawa as Sakai, Junpei Yasui as Sadogashima, Tina Tamashiro as Yukari, MEGUMI as Tanaka and Michiko Tanaka as Ota. Guest performances and the movie's plot will be announced at a later date.
The Way of the Househusband mangaka, Kousouke Oono, made a statement about the upcoming project:"I was very happy when I heard about the movie 'The Way of the Househusband,' thank you. Being able to watch it on the big screen of a movie theater has a different surprise and expectation from the drama."
Oono continued, "The cast members are just addicted to the role, and I'm looking forward to seeing the rampaging on the big screen. While the story interweaves the episodes of the original, there are new developments and new characters unique to the movie, and of course I think that it will be enjoyable for both beginners and those who have watched the original and drama. I hope everyone will come and enjoy the theater."
Fans can expect the live-action film of The Way of the Househusband in theaters sometime early summer 2022.
