Dragon Ball fans looking to complete their collections should keep an eye out for the newly announced Dragon Ball Super Blu-ray and DVD collection.
The new set will be released in two parts, which when combined will comprise the entire 131 episode run of the Dragon Ball Super anime. In addition to the physical copies of the show, the sets will also include cases decorated with brand new art from acclaimed animator and character designer Tadayoshi Yamamuro, who has been working on the Dragon Ball franchise since its original anime adaptation. The set will also include newly edited informational booklets, as well as all of the audio and video bonus material that was included in previous home video releases of the series. As of right now, the new box sets have only been announced for an early 2022 release in Japan, but considering the series' massive worldwide popularity, details about an international release should be revealed soon.
The Dragon Ball Super anime ran from 2015 - 2018, and while the TV series has ended with no news of additional seasons in sight, the original manga it was based on has continued with new stories featuring Goku, Vegeta and a never-ending parade of new opponents for them and their friends to fight. The manga began serialization in Shueisha's V Jump magazine in 2015 and is a direct continuation of the original Dragon Ball manga. The series is written by franchise creator Akira Toriyama and is drawn by Toyotarou, a self-taught artist who has become Toriyama's chosen successor. The latest arc of the manga features Goku and Vegeta going up against a new foe, the vengeful Granolah, in a dramatic new story that also reveals more details about the Saiyans' past, including an incident involving Goku's father, Bardock.
While the return of the TV anime looks like a long shot at this point, the series will continue to release new animated movies. The next film in the franchise, Dragon Ball Super, is due out next year and features a brand new style of CG animation that seeks to recreate the hand-drawn look of Akira Toriyama's iconic art. The new movie will reintroduce Goku's old foes, the Red Ribbon Army, as well as two mysterious, costumed fighters named Gamma 1 and Gamma 2. According to the movie's producers, the story is set after the events of Dragon Ball Super: Broly and will focus heavily on Piccolo and Goku's granddaughter Pan, who is now several years older and has received martial arts training from the Namekian former-villain. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is scheduled to be released in Japan in 2022 with an international release following quickly afterwards.
