If you missed out on Fena: Pirate Princess, Toonami is providing the ideal opportunity to catch up on the pirates versus ninjas anime with a marathon of the complete series.
The anime and action-cartoon block announced its plans to marathon the series in Facebook post. The marathon will begin at 10:30 P.M. on Saturday, Oct. 30 and will continue into the early hours of Halloween, coming to a close at 5:00 A.M. on Oct. 31. Toonami will air all 12 episodes of the series with its English dub.
Fena: Pirate Princess takes place in an alternate version of the 18th century and tells the story of Fena, an orphaned but cheerful young woman whose pale complexion and ivory-colored hair have earned her the nickname "White Marginal." After being sold into marriage to an abusive British naval officer and escaping, Fena falls in with a band of Japanese samurai, who possess unmatched fighting abilities and are operating in the area as a pirate a crew. Determined to forge her own identity, Fena sets out with her new friends to defeat her former oppressors, escape from a dangerous crew of all-female pirates, and solve the mystery surrounding her father's death.
The series is an original anime that was created as collaboration between Adult Swim and the anime streamer Crunchyroll. The show was produced at animation studio Production IG, which is best known for its work on the Ghost in the Shell series, and also recently contributed to Disney and Lucasfilm's acclaimed Star Wars Visions anthology series. The Japanese dub of the series starred Asami Seto, who is also known for playing the role of Chihaya Ayase in the anime adaptation of Chihayafuru, and Ryota Suzuki, who previously played the role of pessimistic Yu Ishigami in Kaguya-sama: Love is War. The series premiered on Aug. 15 on both Adult Swim and Crunchyroll, and received a generally positive reception from critics and general audiences alike.
Fena is just the first of several upcoming collaborations between Crunchyroll and Adult Swim; the two companies also worked together to create Blade Runner: Black Lotus, a new CG animated series set in the Blade Runner universe. The new show is directed by Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex's Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama and will premiere on Nov. 13. The two companies have also teamed up to produce Shenmue: The Animation, an anime adaptation of Sega and Yu Suzuki's cult classic video game series.
Interested viewers who can't wait for the marathon or who don't want to stay up all night to watch it can still stream Fena: Pirate Princess from either Crunchyroll or through Adult Swim's website.
