The next preview for Netflix's Cowboy Bebop live-action series will be released later tonight.
The new trailer will debut during a live stream event on Netflix' official YouTube channel on Oct. 26 at 4:00 P.M. PST. The trailer will give fans another preview of the series; Netflix previously released The Lost Session, a stand alone, mini-movie that told an original story and was intended to give viewers a feel for the style, tone and character dynamics of the full series. Prior to that, Netflix released the series' opening title sequence, which showed how the original anime's iconic opening, complete with it's original theme song, "Tank!" by composer Yoko Kanno, translated into live-action.
Cowboy Bebop stars Star Trek Into Darkness and Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle's John Cho as Spike Spiegel, an extremely skilled martial artist and gunfighter whose laid-back attitude hides a bloody past. Joining him is his bounty hunting partner, a former cop named Jet Black, who is played by actor Mustafa Shakir, who viewers may recognize from his portrayal of the Bushmaster from the second season of Luke Cage. The two form a reluctant partnership with the opportunistic Faye Valentine, played by Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom's Daniella Pineda. André Nemec, who previously worked on Alias, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and Hulu's High Fidelity series, serves as the new show's executive producer and showrunner.
The series will feature the return of the original anime's director, Shinichiro Watanabe, who worked as a creative consultant for the live-action adaptation of his work. Watanabe is one of the most celebrated directors in the anime industry, having directed acclaimed shows such as Samurai Champloo and Kids on the Slope. The anime's original composer, Yoko Kanno, also composed new music for the series. Watanabe and Kanno are frequent collaborators, and it was recently announced that the first anime they worked on together, Macross Plus, will be re-released in theaters this December.
The original Cowboy Bebop anime was released in 1998 and received near-universal critical acclaim upon its release for its feature-quality animation, memorable characters, and jazz-inspired soundtrack. The series takes place in a future where humanity has abandoned the Earth and now lives on colonies spread out throughout the solar system. While technology has improved, crime is still rampant, so society relies on bounty hunters, commonly referred to as "cowboys," to track criminals across the solar system and bring them to justice.
The entire 26 episode anime series is available for streaming on Netflix and Funimation. The live-action remake will premiere on Netflix on Nov. 19.
