The Most Miraculous Power in Dragon Ball Z Belongs to a Villain

Many of Dragon Ball's fan-favorite Z Fighters are capable of incredible abilities in addition to their awesome prowess as warriors tasked with defending the entire multiverse from evil. One of the most overlooked and miraculous abilities seen over the course of Dragon Ball Z came from Majin Buu, who revealed himself capable of healing to the point where he could resurrect the recently dead and even restore the sight of the blind. However, as game-changing as this ability is, Buu has rarely used it after joining the heroes, even as he continued to appear in the sequel series Dragon Ball Super.

When Majin Buu is first introduced, he is a largely uncontrollable monster created by the evil sorcerer Bibidi and imprisoned for millennia in a sealed containment pod hidden on Earth. Bibidi's equally evil son Babidi freed Buu and attempted to control him, only for the monster to rebel and murder Babidi before embarking on an unrestrained rampage around Earth, wiping out millions.

In between Buu's attacks, he encounters a blind boy -- named Tommy in the Funimation English-language dub of DBZ -- who Buu heals, not necessarily out of kindness but to scare the boy with his monstrous visage before killing him. To Buu's surprise, Tommy was grateful for the gesture and completely unafraid of Buu's appearance, with Buu befriending Tommy and getting him milk (albeit made from a transformed, innocent man, which poor Tommy was completely unaware of).

While Dragon Ball has its fair share of healers, the most notable being the Namekian Guardian of Earth Dende, Buu's healing abilities appear to be even more powerful than most. Shortly after healing Tommy, gunmen shot and apparently killed Hercule Satan and Buu's adopted dog Bee, but Buu was able to completely revive and heal both after getting his temper under control. However, after making his heroic redemption by the end of DBZ to confront his original, evil incarnation Kid Buu, Buu has rarely used his healing powers to help the Z Fighters, even when being drawn into harrowing conflicts alongside them.

While Tommy was ironically the first person to truly be nice and befriend Buu, just predating Hercule's own introduction to the magical monsters, he was ironically virtually guaranteed to have been killed by some more malevolent form of Majin Buu not long after this heartwarming encounter. After Evil Buu absorbed his more innocent counterpart and transformed into Super Buu, he unleashed an attack that wiped out virtually all human life not taking refuge on the Lookout. Tommy may have been spared from this onslaught, just as Hercule and Bee were due to Buu's friendship with them before being absorbed, but he was likely on Earth when Kid Buu destroyed the entire planet, and resurrected on the restored Earth by the Dragon Balls after Kid Buu's eventual defeat.

With the ability to restore sight and resurrect the recent dead, Majin Buu is easily one of the most powerful healers in the entire Dragon Ball franchise, but he hasn't really demonstrated those abilities ever since breaking good. Instead, the magical creature has relied on other unique powers, from transforming those caught in his energy beams into delectable treats to showcasing just how malleable his body is while in combat. And while Tommy hasn't made a canonical return to the franchise, the non-canonical video game Dragon Ball Online reveals that Tommy always remembered Buu for his act of kindness, making sure that those descending from the creature would be taken care of.
