Funimation has announced that the anime adaptation of Toru Toba and fal_maro's light novel series The Genius Prince's Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt (Hey, How About Treason?) will premiere as part of the streaming service's winter 2022 lineup.
A new trailer gives anime fans a preview of the upcoming series, providing them a first look at The Genius Prince's Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt's characters and comedic tone. The show is produced by NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan and animated by a relative newcomer to the industry, Yokohama Animation Laboratory (Lapis Re:Lights).
Masato Tamagawa (Cardcaptor Sakura The Movie 2: The Sealed Card, Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's Diary on the Creation of the World) is directing the anime with Xin Ya Cai (Magatsu Wahrheit -Zuerst-, Starlight Promises) serving as assistant director, Deko Akao (The Case Study of Vanitas, Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a Starter Town) overseeing series composition and Toshihiko Sahashi (Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny, Fatal Fury: Legend of the Hungry Wolf) composing the music. Ryūnosuke Ōji is making his debut in the anime industry as the show's character designer.
The original light novel series was first published by SB Creative in May 2018. The story follows Wein Salema Arbalest, the prince of a small, weak kingdom. His main goal is to sell his country to the highest bidder and spend the rest of his life living in quiet leisure; however, his own genius continually gets in the way. As he achieves astounding accomplishments and earns greater favor amongst his citizens, he discovers fulfilling his ultimate goal is much harder than expected.
So far, four members of the voice cast have been revealed: Soma Saito (Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, Rokka: Braves of the Six Flowers) is playing Prince Wein, Rie Takahashi (Muteking the Dancing Hero, Fate/Grand Order - Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia) is voicing Ninym Ralei, Nao Toyama (The Devil is a Part-Timer!) plays Lowellmina Earthworld and Sayaka Senbongi (SK8 the Infinity, Violet Evergarden) voices Falanya Elk Arbalest.
The series is just one of many anime series already announced to debut in 2022, which include Deaimon, The Story of Kyoko and Katsuya, the third season of Ascendance of a Bookworm, Love After World Domination, Girls' Frontline, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury, My Isekai Life and The Great Demon Lord is Reborn as a Typical Nobody.
The Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt will premiere sometime in January 2022 on Tokyo MX, BTS NTV, AT-X and Funimation.
