With autumn finally upon us, the countdown to Halloween season has officially begun and there has been no shortage of horror trailers and promos released this past week to hype up the upcoming television and film poised to deliver the scares throughout October. And in addition to horror reigning supreme in the weeks to come, a massive wave of anime programming has been announced with its own set of trailers.
Here are all the biggest trailers, teasers and promos released the final, full week of September 2021 in television, film and video games including original programming for premium streaming services like Netflix, Apple TV+, Peacock, Hulu and Disney+.
Batwoman
With Batwoman poised to return for its third season, the Arrowverse series is leaning much more heavily into Batman's extensive rogues gallery as Ryan Wilder continues to defend Gotham City from a rise in supervillains. From Poison Ivy to a new Mad Hatter, the Scarlet Knight finds herself surrounded by villains, leading Ryan to turn to one unlikely ally for help: the twisted Alice.
Developed for television by Caroline Dries, Batwoman Season 3 premieres Oct. 13 on The CW.
Blue Period
Tsubasa Yamaguchi's acclaimed manga series Blue Period gets an anime adaptation next month, poised to premiere in Japan shortly before arriving on Netflix for international audiences. As popular high schooler Yatora Yaguchi struggles with anxieties and personal hangups, he finds an outlet in the world of painting, deciding to pursue a career in artwork as he settles on his collegiate path.
Directed by Koji Masunari and Katsuya Masano, Blue Period premieres Oct. 9 on Netflix.
Dead & Beautiful
With the horror premium streaming service Shudder, the scares and thrills of the genre aren't confined to Halloween season, with the digital platform teasing its next original horror movie Dead & Beautiful. Five incredibly wealthy friends are able to indulge in some of their basest, most hedonistic desires only to wake up one day with vampire fangs and a growing bloodlust as they acclimate to their new state.
Written and directed by David Verbeek, Dead & Beautiful premieres Nov. 4 on Shudder.
Escape the Undertaker
The WWE Superstars The New Day are in for a terrifying night to remember in the upcoming Netflix original special Escape the Undertaker. An interactive adventure that lets audiences decide where the story goes next, the special has The New Day arrive at the Undertaker's haunted mansion, with the undead champion stalking the fan-favorite trio as they search the premises for the Undertaker's urn.
Escape the Undertaker premieres Oct. 5 on Netflix.
Finch
After a devastating solar flare nearly wipes out all life on Earth, Tom Hanks traverses the post-apocalyptic wasteland in the Apple TV+ original film Finch. Joined by his faithful dog and an inquisitive robot, Hanks portrays the movie's eponymous engineer as he explores the brave, new world in a story that examines companionship amidst turmoil in a different kind of American odyssey.
Directed by Miguel Sapochnik, Finch premieres Nov. 5 on Apple TV+.
Halloween Kills
After thrilling audiences in 2018's acclaimed revival film Halloween, The Shape is back to pick up his bloody rampage with furious vengeance in the direct sequel Halloween Kills. The slasher movie's final trailer has Michael Myers escape from the fiery trap from the previous film before cutting a gory path back towards his childhood home, with Laurie Strode and her family scrambling to track him down and put a stop to the serial killer once and for all.
Directed and co-written by David Gordon Green, Halloween Kills premieres Oct. 15 in theaters and on Peacock.
Hit-Monkey
The strangest Marvel character of them all is coming to Hulu this November, with the original animated series Hit-Monkey. When Monkey's family is killed in the Japanese mountains, he teams up with the ghost of a former assassin named Bryce to exact his revenge on the yakuza, with some of the bloodiest, most hi-octane thrills Marvel has to offer as the streets of Japan become a war zone.
Developed for television by Josh Gordon and Will Speck, Hit-Monkey premieres Nov. 17 on Hulu.
Injustice
The DC Universe's greatest heroes murderously break bad in the upcoming animated movie Injustice, adapting the enormously successful fighting game franchise and its bestselling comic book series. After being tricked by the Joker into killing a pregnant Lois Lane, Superman not only murders the Clown Prince of Crime but decides to install himself as the head of a totalitarian regime controlling Earth. This pits him against many of his old friends who oppose this drastic course of action.
Directed by Matt Peters, Injustice will be released on Oct. 19 on digital HD and Blu-ray/4K UHD.
I Know What You Did Last Summer
The fan-favorite slasher franchise I Know What You Did Last Summer is getting reimagined as a television series for Amazon Prime Video just in time for Halloween, with the first full-length trailer showcasing the bloody mayhem. After a group of teenagers attempts to cover up a seemingly fatal hit-and-run accident, they find themselves hunted by a vengeful serial killer one year later who knows their dark secret.
Developed for television by Sara Goodman, I Know What You Did Last Summer premieres Oct. 15 on Amazon Prime Video.
Invasion
Earth is poised to become a battlefield in the upcoming Apple TV+ original series Invasion, as the planet is rocked by a series of cataclysmic incidents that are revealed to be the machinations of conquering extraterrestrials. Co-created by prolific filmmaker Simon Kinberg, the show's trailer teases the ensemble cast's individual actors each providing a different perspective on the conquest of Earth as the stakes become unmistakably clear.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits
The indie fantasy game Kena: Bridge of Spirits has officially launched on PlayStation consoles and PC, with its eponymous protagonist serving as a spirit guide for those journeying to the afterlife. Inspired by East Asian locations, the launch trailer showcases a lush world where Kena helps the deceased find peace while battling evil spirits that menace Kena on her divine quest.
Developed and published by Ember Lab, Kena: Bridge of Spirits is now available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC.
Muppets Haunted Mansion
After surviving a series of increasingly death-defying stunts, Gonzo is in for the night of his life in the upcoming Disney+ special Muppets Haunted Mansion. Deciding to spend the night in Disney's infamous Haunted Mansion, Gonzo quickly finds himself encountering ghastly apparitions both in the form of familiar Muppet faces and surprise, celebrity guests with their own spooky connection to the mansion.
Directed and co-written by Kirk Thatcher, Muppets Haunted Mansion premieres Oct. 8 on Disney+.
My Hero Academia
An all-out war is coming to My Hero Academia Season 5 as the students of U.A. High School find themselves confronting the Meta Liberation Army in a new promo for the enormously successful anime series. Based on the manga series by Kōhei Horikoshi, the season has seen the villainous Tomura Shigaraki rise to take control of the MLA while the heroes in training rally to stop the supervillain ensemble.
Directed by Kenji Nagasaki and Masahiro Mukai, My Hero Academia Season 5 is simulcast through Crunchyroll, Funimation and Hulu, with new episodes released on Saturdays.
Night Teeth
One rideshare driver named Benny stumbles into the night of his life, and quite possibly his last, in the upcoming Netflix original horror movie Night Teeth. Picking up two young women to transport to parties throughout various Los Angeles nightclubs, Benny discovers that they are actually bloodthirsty vampires as he finds himself drawn into a war between warring undead factions.
Directed by Adam Randall, Night Teeth premieres Oct. 20 on Netflix.
Scarlet Nexus
The second part of the anime series Scarlet Nexus, adapting the video game of the same name, has released a first look in a new teaser trailer. As a group of heroes with supernatural abilities take a stand, they find themselves in a series of frenzied battles against mutated monsters in a science fiction world, as tensions within the group arise. The series premiered this past July, with Funimation providing an English-language dub the following month.
Directed by Hiroyuki Nishimura, Scarlet Nexus airs on Thursdays and is available to stream through Funimation.
Shaman King
The rebooted Shaman King anime series is nearing the halfway mark of its planned 52-episode run, with the first thirteen episodes currently available to stream on Netflix while the series continues to run weekly in Japan. Based on the manga series of the same name by Hiroyuki Takei, the anime's latest trailer teases the intense combat of the Shaman Fight tournament to claim the role of undisputed Shaman King.
Directed by Joji Furuta, Shaman King is available to stream on Netflix.
Violet Evergarden: The Movie
Following a popular anime season, the story behind Violet Evergarden comes to an emotional conclusion with a feature-length anime film. Arriving on Netflix next month after its debut in Japanese theaters last year and based on the light novel series by Kana Akatsuki and Akiko Takase, the story follows a ghostwriter assisting with the writing of novels after a cataclysmic war rocked the world.
Directed by Taichi Ishidate, Taichi Ogawa, Minoru Oota, Shinpei Sawa and Takuya Yamamura, Violet Evergarden: The Movie premieres Oct. 13 on Netflix.
