The October issue of Kodansha's Shonen Magazine Edge announced that Shaman King: The Super Star, the most recent spinoff of Hiroyuki Takei's original Shaman King manga, is entering an indefinite hiatus.
As reported by the Anime News Network, Takei is taking a break from the series due to other commitments. While a date for when the manga would resume was not announced, Shonen Magazine Edge says it will keep fans updated as details become available.
The original Shaman King manga was published in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump from 1998 to 2004. A reprinting of the story that revealed a new "true ending" was released in 2009. Following the publication of three prologue chapters, Shaman King: The Super Star debuted in May 2018, with Kodansha releasing the series' fifth volume on July 6.
While fans of the long-running manga will have to wait to see how the spinoff's story continues to unfold, they can still enjoy new Shaman King content through the series' latest anime adaptation. The first season of Netflix's anime reboot of the original manga premiered on Aug. 9. It ended with protagonist Yoh Asakura and his allies preparing for the Shaman Fight tournament. The show's second season is currently airing in Japan and is expected to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2022.
Both Shaman King and Shaman King: The Super Star are available to read digitally through Kodansha Comics.
