WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Chapter #62 of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, “Run-In,” by Masashi Kishimoto, Mikio Ikemoto, Mari Morimoto and Snir Aharon, now available in English from Viz Media.
One of the scariest aspects in the recent Boruto manga chapters has been seeing just how powerful Eida is. The cyborg has been recovered by Code as he prepares to destroy Konoha for killing his mentor, Isshiki, but Code slowly realized Eida is quite omnipotent with her all-seeing eye. However, as much as she's now taken over with her godlike surveillance running the game plan, Boruto #62 hints she may not be in control for much longer.
Eida made it clear she'd guide Code accordingly so he could murder the Konoha-nin who destroyed Isshiki, but she needed one thing: Kawaki. He's the only person alive who won't fall for her hypnosis, so it'll be a truly organic love -- which is how Amado wired their bodies.
As such, she doesn't want Code harming her "soulmate," which is why she's eager to run point on this mission. Code doesn't mind because he needs her as he knows the likes of Naruto, Sasuke, Kawaki, Boruto and the traitorous scientist Amado can't be underestimated. Thus, he struck the deal to keep Kawaki alive so Eida could woo him.
But that notion is almost shattered as Code finally finds the teen and pummels him mercilessly outside Konoha's woods. Kawaki's strong, but Code is stronger and far quicker, smashing the kid in minutes. Eida is left telepathically screaming, however, for him not to kill Kawaki as he is her prize. Code's frustrated but concedes he won't kill the boy as payment for Eida, though he's steeped in regret as he absolutely abhors Kawaki.
Code wasn't as perfect a vessel as Kawaki -- ergo why he wasn't Isshiki's Chosen One -- so this hurts his pride and comes off quite personal. Eida is barely able to convince him to stop, which hints a jealous Code might backstab her soon. It's a given that no one in Kara can trust each other, so there is a chance that once Code gets what he wants, his jealousy and love for Eida could make her and Kawaki targets to finish the job. In addition, Eida is probably the only weapon alive who could stop Code's rampage, so in a way he'd be taking a proactive approach toward a potential enemy.
Isshiki's death has hit Code hard, which would explain why this marriage of convenience may come to an end sooner rather than later in Boruto. They're both using each other but while Eida feels like she's playing Code, given he learned from Isshiki's mistakes about ignoring red flags, Code could already be plotting something in return.
He won't like being someone else's puppet outside of Isshiki, so Eida definitely will have to monitor him after this outburst and deadly fit of rage against her beloved Kawaki.
