Kazuya Minekura's iconic Saiyuki manga has spawned multiple sequels, movies, video games and even live-action musicals, and now a new anime adaptation is scheduled to premiere next year.
Saiyuki Reload -ZEROIN- was announced on Twitter with a new trailer that indicates that the anime will cover the manga's "Even a Worm" story arc. This latest adaptation is produced by Liden Films (The Heroic Legend of Arslan: Dust Storm Dance, Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches, Tokyo Revengers), and it has been confirmed that the main cast members from the previous anime will reprise their roles. New cast members include Koichi Tochika (Beast Wars, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable) and Rikiya Koyama (Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle, The Seven Deadly Sins: Rival of the Commandments).

Based on the Chinese fantasy epic Journey to the West, Minekura's original manga first appeared in G-Fantasy in 1997 and there are currently over 25 million copies in circulation. The Saiyuki franchise has become a mainstay of manga/anime culture, and its various entries have continually garnered critical praise and accolades. In 2006, PUFF listed Saiyuki Reload as number 10 on its list of long story mangas, and in 2000, Gensomaden Saiyuki won the Animage Anime Grand Prix Award.
Saiyuki Reload -ZEROIN- is scheduled to premiere in Japan in January 2022. Currently, there is no word if or when the anime will receive an international release.
