Chainsaw Man Creator’s Look Back Reveals Cover Art

Look Back, the recently released one-shot manga from Chainsaw Man creator Tatsuki Fujimoto, will receive a print edition this September, complete with new cover art from Fujimoto.

Look Back tells the story of two aspiring artists who are brought together by their love of manga, but grow apart as they get older and their careers unfold in different directions. Fujimoto's standalone story was originally published online on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ service in Japan, and on VIZ Media's Manga Plus website internationally. The story was an immediate hit with both critics and fans alike, and was viewed over 2.5 million times in the 24-hours following its release. Publisher Shuiesha immediately announced that it was going to publish a physical, print edition of Look Back, which is currently scheduled to be released in September. The Twitter account Shonen Jump News - Unofficial has posted the first look at the physical copy's cover art.

Fujimoto's best known work, Chainsaw Man, is currently on break following the completion of the story's first part in December 2020. While the first part of the story was published in Shuiesha's premier manga magazine, Weekly Shonen Jump, the second part will make its debut on Shonen Jump+, which has proven itself to be just as popular as its long-running print counterpart. In addition to hits such as Look Back, Shonen Jump+ has also launched several popular manga series of its own, including Kaiju No. 8 and Spy x Family. A release date for Part 2 has not yet been announced.

The upcoming Chainsaw Man anime is also still without a release date, though the series' director recently put out a call for animators to work on the project, along with the announcement that animators on the show would be given higher than average wages and better benefits than the industry standard. The studio behind the Chainsaw Man anime, MAPPA, was previously criticized by artists working within the industry for underpaying and overworking its artists.

Chainsaw Man is localized and distributed internationally by VIZ Media.
