WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Episode 40 of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, "The Congress Dances," now streaming on Crunchyroll.
As Rimuru Tempest's multination summit reaches its conclusion, he's proved to everyone how politically adept he has grown in a remarkably short time. Demon Lord Ramiris arrives with a dire warning, however, reaffirming what Rimuru knows: Demon Lord Clayman is a serious threat. But as Episode 40 reveals, the enemy is now on the move.
Ramiris declares herself an ally of Rimuru and his nation, but warns him that Tempest is doomed to fall at Clayman's hands. Her intel -- combined with Souei's updates later that evening -- makes it clear that war is on the horizon, and Clayman is poised to strike with an entire army of majin.
In Reincarnated as a Slime Episode 40, Ramiris explains to Rimuru that the Demon Lords also have politics. Clayman recently called for a Walpurgis -- a peaceful meeting -- and had Demon Lords Frey and Milim to back him up. He officially sanctions Rimuru as a threat in light of Myulan's apparent death, and has formed a power bloc to rival Rimuru's own human political alliance.
This proves Clayman has the skills and smarts to match Rimuru step for step. Diplomacy, negotiations and even deception are all vital skills in this world, not just superpowers and swords. Rimuru's battle with Clayman is both military-based and political, and if more Demon Lords join Clayman's side during Walpurgis, Rimuru may have too many enemies to face. So far at least, Ramiris does not believe any others have sided with Clayman aside from Frey and Milim.
Rimuru welcomes Ramiris to Tempest along with his other allies, and Shion, Souei and Myulan provide further intel on their enemies as well as the Falmuth kingdom's actions. Rimuru sends Youm and his new devil ally Diablo to handle Falmuth, while Souei brings alarming news concerning Clayman's actions elsewhere. Yamza, one of Clayman's five elite subordinates and the strongest of his Five Fingers squad, has been seen gathering an army of 30,000 majin to assault their enemies.
However, Rimuru doesn't believe an army of that size could possibly assault the fortified Tempest nation and crush it, especially with the three Beastketeers and the reborn Veldora on hand. Benimaru thinks it over, then deduces Clayman's true target: the Animal Kingdom, or Eruazania. Its capital and leader have both fallen, and the Beastketeers are too far away to defend it. Clayman intends to slaughter all the refugees and villagers there and harvest their souls to become a True Demon Lord -- the same way Rimuru did.
This assault will take place in two days, seemingly too soon for Rimuru to intervene. That said, he has pulled off impossible victories before, and he and his allies must get creative to save the Animal Kingdom and prevent Clayman from becoming a True Demon Lord. The time for talk in Reincarnated as a Slime is over, and Rimuru has his coalition. Now it's time to face Clayman once again and defeat him for good.
