With Volume 14 of Riyoko's Ikeda's The Rose of Versailles Episodes marking the final compiled manga volume in The Rose of Versailles short stories series, publisher Udon Entertainment announced a new Episodes omnibus compilation is on its way.
Udon told Anime News Network during 2021's Comic-Con@Home that the two-volume omnibus series will go up for sale in spring 2022. Price points have yet to be disclosed.
The Rose of Versailles Episodes is a short story serialization of the original Rose of Versailles manga series focusing on a variety of side characters living in a timeline parallel to the original. Ikeda began Episodes in 2013, over 25 years after concluding the original series, offering readers a "much more in-depth look at characters like Andre, Alan, Gerodelle and Rosalie," according to Udon.
Udon previously published the complete original Rose of Versailles series across five volumes from 2020 to 2021. As such, the publisher feels positioned to market Episodes, saying the company has "taken our experience from last time so we have already been deep in the works of these volumes when we [made] this announcement."
The Rose of Versailles main series centers around Lady Oscar, a young woman living in the court of Queen Marie Antoinette. Set to the backdrop of palace intrigue and the French Revolution, readers follow Lady Oscar as she is raised as a son by her father in order to join the palace guard. The manga has since become known as one of the most influential shojo manga, going on to receive a 40-episode anime adaptation in 1979 followed by an animated film roughly 10 years later.
Udon Entertainment announced earlier this month that the publisher will also be releasing Persona 5: Mementos Mission, a three-volume manga "side-adventure" based on the popular RPG. Readers can find the first volume of that spinoff manga on store shelves Dec. 7, 2021.
