Attack On Titan Final Season Blu-rays Feature Revised Animation

Attack on Titan may look different the next time you watch it, as it appears the Blu-ray release of the anime's fourth and final season seems to have received a number of revisions to its visuals.

As pointed out by Twitter user @g6xa3awstGCEljS, who tweeted a series of frames comparing the originally aired versions to frames from the recent Season 4 Blu-ray release in Japan, a number of visual adjustments can be spotted in the new version of the show. The Twitter user has taken frames from seven of Season 4's 16 episodes, which they say start featuring many more drawing corrections after Episode 6.

The corrections, which can be seen below, include everything from orange fire effects becoming blue to redrawn faces and new backgrounds, as well as additional detail on shaded figures and environments.

Fans initially feared the worst when Attack on Titan underwent a studio transition from Wit Studio to MAPPA, following the poorly-received studio change One Punch Man underwent between its first and second seasons. MAPPA, however, managed to not only to make the visuals more accurate to the manga in the anime's final season, but also impressed fans with improved CGI when the Season 4 trailer dropped in 2020.

Season 1 of Attack on Titan is available on Netflix. The first three seasons, as well as part 1 of Season 4, are available for streaming on Hulu, Crunchyroll, and Funimation. Season 4, Part 2 is scheduled to premiere sometime in 2022.
