A new trailer has been released for the coming-of-age anime Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop.
Netflix's latest anime acquisition is the first animated movie directed by Kyohei Ishiguro, who previously directed the Netflix exclusive series Children of the Whales, as well as episodes of the critically-acclaimed Your Lie In April and Psycho-Pass. Ishiguro is once again joined by Your Lie In April's character designer Yukiko Aikei, as well as Eureka Seven and Samurai Champloo writer Dai Sato.
Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop tells the story of Cherry, an extremely awkward and shy young boy who avoids conversations with other people by always keeping his headphones on. Cherry is content only expressing himself through writing haikus until he meets Smile, a girl who always hides her face behind a medical mask because she is embarrassed by her appearance. The two become unlikely friends over the course of their summer vacation, but their budding romance is cut short when Cherry's family announces that they will move away from the area soon. Cherry is forced to quickly figure out a way to overcome his shyness and communicate his feelings to Smile before the summer ends.
