Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is moving on to a new story arc and the anime's producers have given fans their first glimpse of what is to come.

A new image and details about the upcoming story, entitled "Kawaki Arc: Otsutsuki-Awakening," were released to the Japanese news site PR Times. The new image depicts Naruto, Sasuke, Boruto and Kawaki readying each of their trademark attacks. The new story arc will come with new opening and ending animation sequences for the show. CHICO with HoneyWorks, who previously performed the ending theme for EDENS ZERO, will provide the new theme song, while Japanese rock group Pelican Fanclub will perform the new ending credits theme.

Naruto Boruto Sasuke and Kawaki ready their attacks

The Kawaki Arc will see the show's heroes face off against Jigen, an opponent whose strength is a match for the combined powers of Naruto and Sasuke, the two most powerful shinobi in the world. While Boruto and Kawaki have grown closer to truly understanding each other, Jigen's plans are destined to lead up to the devastating final battle first glimpsed at the very beginning of the Boruto series, which previewed a future conflict in which a fully grown Boruto and Kawaki fight each other over the smoldering ruins of Konohagakure.

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations first debuted in 2017 and is a direct sequel to Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto, the popular anime and Shonen Jump manga series that was first published from 1994-2014. Boruto tells the story of Naruto's rebellious son, Boruto, as well as a new generation of ninjas descended from the original show's cast. The Naruto manga is the fourth best-selling manga of all time with over 250 million copies sold, while Boruto has sold over a million copies. The franchise covers multiple anime series, movies and a line of video games that have sold over 10 million copies across multiple consoles.

Both the Boruto manga and anime are distributed by VIZ Media in North America. The anime is available for streaming on Hulu and Crunchyroll.
