Wotakoi: Love Is Hard for Otaku's final volume will be released in a special commemorative edition that includes a disc featuring a brand new episode of the popular romantic-comedy anime.
According to Anime News Network, the latest chapter of the Wotakoi: Love Is Hard for Otaku manga was posted to Pixiv alongside an announcement stating that the series will end with the publication of its next chapter on July 16. The message also reveals that the final collected volume of the manga will be released on Oct. 14. This collection will be available in a special edition bundle that will include a new episode of the anime that adapts the "Company Outing" storyline from the manga.
Wotakoi: Love Is Hard for Otaku tells the story of Narumi Momose, an office worker and hardcore otaku (anime nerd) who is scared of being stereotyped as a fangirl and tries to hide her hobbies from her co-workers. She is life-long friends with Hirotaka Nifuji, a handsome geek who is respected within his company but would rather spend his time playing video games like Monster Hunter. Though Nifuji has harbored an unrequited crush on Momose since childhood, Momose's fear of being outed as an otaku initially makes her hesitant to enter into a relationship with another nerd.
Originally published as a webcomic on the Japanese art-sharing site Pixiv, the series was picked up by Japanese manga publisher Ichijinsha and received a print edition. Combined, the digital and print releases of Wotakoi have sold over 10 million copies. An 11-episode anime adaptation, which was helmed by Kaleido Star director Yoshimasa Hiraike, was released in 2018 and is available for streaming via Amazon Prime Video. A live-action, musical adaptation of the series was released in 2020 and debuted at the top of the Japanese box office.
