Luffy eventually becomes the captain of a colorful group of characters known as the Straw Hats Pirates, and together they set out to discover the truth behind One Piece, a legendary treasure coveted by all pirates.
The manga was adapted into an anime series in 1999, which continues today with over 20 seasons and almost 1,000 episodes produced. A live-action series based on the property is being produced by Tomorrow Studios, which is also producing the live-action Cowboy Bebop adaptation for Netflix, as well as TNT's Snowpiercer TV series.
