Taking Care of Your Skin during the Music Festival Season

We can all agree that music festivals are a lot of fun. Unfortunately, we can also agree that they are your skin’s worst enemy. Standing in the sun the whole day surrounded by dirt and sand while sweating constantly is a recipe for inflammation. After a year of lockdowns, you surely are anxious to find yourself in the middle of a large crowd, listening to amazing performers, singing from the top of your lungs. It is perfectly understandable that you might forget about your skincare routine occupied by the festival season. However, this is the time when you should take extra care of your skin. Not to worry, you won’t have to do anything complicated. Here are several tips that will help you take care of your skin during the festival season.

Sunscreen is a must

Most music festivals take place outside, usually in the middle of nowhere where finding shade is basically impossible. That means that you can easily burn if you are not careful. Sun protection is essential during festival season, so if you don’t want to spend the next five days licking your wounds, bring sunscreen with you and reapply it regularly.

Stay hydrated

If you are going to Coachella or some other festival where you will most likely face intense heat and whipping winds, you need to make sure that you do not dehydrate. Your body needs water in order to function properly, and your skin will become dry, dull, and prone to irritation without it. Keep in mind that alcoholic beverages are not a good substitute for water, since they can speed up the dehydration process. Eight cocktails and eight glasses of water are not the same!

Makeup wipes will make your life easier

If you are spending three days in the middle of nowhere, removing your makeup with several different products can be a pain. Luckily, with makeup wipes you can remove even the festival glitter and face paint. Cleansing your face before you go to bed is a must, otherwise don’t be surprised if nasty pimples begin to pop up all over your face. Remains of foundation and powder combined with sweat and dirt can easily cause inflammation, so make sure to cleanse your face before bedtime.

Take care of your body

While facial skin is more demanding and requires special care, skin on the rest of your body also needs your attention. With multi-day festivals where taking a long shower (or taking a shower at all) feels like a mission impossible, you will need to find a way to practice good hygiene. This is where baby wipes come to the rescue. They will keep you as fresh as a daisy and they can fit into your fanny pack. Opt for the hypoallergenic kind and your skin will be grateful.

Don’t forget your lips

Those harmful UV rays can wreak havoc on your lips as well. Therefore, apart from using sunscreen, use also a lip balm with SPF 30 or higher. This way you will give your lips long-lasting moisture and make sure they don’t become chapped and scaly.

Protect your scalp

It is very easy to forget about the skin beneath your hair. However, anyone who has ever had a burnt scalp can tell you that it is not a pleasant experience. To protect your scalp wear a wide-brimmed hat that will keep the sun’s rays away from your head.

Forgetting about your daily routines is incredibly easy when you are having fun at a music festival, but make an effort to take care of your skin. Once you have all your skincare essentials, you can enjoy the party.
