A new trailer has been released for Aquatrope of White Sand, the latest original anime from studio P.A. Works.
As translated by AIR News, P.A. Works has released a new trailer for Aquatope of White Sand a few weeks ahead of the slice-of-life anime's July 8 premiere. Aquatope is set at an aquarium located in tropical Okinawa, and is the latest original series from P.A. Works, the animation studio that has made a name for itself with shows like 2020's colorful racing anime Appare-Ranman!, and 2014's Shirobako, the somewhat meta series about an animation studio.
Aquatope of the White Sand tells the story of Fuka Miyazawa, a pampered pop idol from Tokyo who runs away to rural Okinawa to escape the stress and pressures of celebrity life. Once there, she meets Kukuru Misakino, a young woman who loves animals and dreams of running an aquarium. The two bond and become closer as they work together to save the local aquarium from closing its doors permanently due to a financial crisis.
The series will be directed by Toshiya Shinohara, who previously provided storyboard work for Gintama and directed the four InuYasha animated features. Rikako Aida, best known for her role as Riko Sakurauchi in Love Live! Sunshine!!, will voice Fuka, while Kukuru will be voiced by Miku Ito, who previously starred in Nekopara, Gleipnir and Princess Connect! RE:dive. Music for the series will be composed by Yoshiaki Dewa, who previously worked on High School of the Dead and Fate/stay Night.
Details concerning Aquatope of White Sand's release outside of Japan have yet to be announced.
