From Army of the Dead to Loki, Here Are This Week’s Biggest Trailers

With May 2021 now in full swing, the rival digital platforms are rolling out eagerly anticipated original programming while theaters are continuing to take tentative steps towards reopening and showing new movies nationwide. This week, a lot of big trailers released, including for movies like Army of the Dead, Black Widow and A Quiet Place: Part II as well as television shows like BatwomanLoki and My Hero Academia.

Here are all biggest trailers, teasers and promos from Netflix, Disney+ and Paramount+ and more released during the first week of May 2021.

Army of the Dead

One of Netflix's most anticipated original movies of the year is filmmaker Zack Snyder's horror heist flick Army of the Dead. Taking place in a world overrun by the ravenous undead, a team of mercenaries decides to carry out a heist in Las Vegas, with Sin City now teeming with zombie hordes. A new promo for the movie provides a comparative look at the different kinds of zombies in the film, each with their own unique traits.

Directed and co-written by Zack Snyder, Army of the Dead stars Dave Bautista, Garret Dillahunt, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Raul Castillo, Tig Notaro, Theo Rossi and Ana de la Reguera. The film will release on Netflix May 21.

Batwoman

As Stephanie Brown is poised to join the cast of Batwoman Season 2, the Arrowverse series introduces Stephanie's murderous father Cluemaster. A promo shows Cluemaster leaving hints and tips for the Scarlet Knight around Gotham City, giving Ryan Wilder and team a narrow chance to rescue his victims before he claims their lives as he plays a game of wits with the superhero.

Batwoman stars Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder, Rachel Skarsten as Alice, Meagan Tandy as Sophie Moore, Camrus Johnson as Luke Fox, Dougray Scott as Jacob Kane, Nicole Kang as Mary Hamilton-Kane and Wallis Day as Kate Kane. New episodes air Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

Destiny 2

The latest update to the popular online shooter Destiny 2 puts the focus on the Sacred Splicer, with a season of content and events slated to run from May through August. Containing new six and three-player events and modes, Bungie's first-person shooter has humanity receive approximately 30 new types of weapons in the seasonal update.

Developed and published by Bungie, Destiny 2 is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Stadia. Season of the Splicer begins May 11.

The Flash

The Flash Season 7 took a surprising turn when Nora, the personification of the reborn Speed Force taking on the form of Barry Allen's late mother Nora, revealed herself as out to destroy the other Forces by any means necessary. Having already killed one perceived rival, Nora faces off against the Scarlet Speedster as Barry vows to stop her from adding to her body count. However, with Nora commanding a greater mastery over the Speed Force, Team Flash faces its most powerful antagonist yet.

The Flash stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Jesse L. Martin, Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes and Tom Cavanagh. The series returns from hiatus Tuesday, May 4 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

Heels

Well over a year after fan-favorite actor Stephen Amell left the Arrowverse, the first trailer for his next project Heels. Following a pair of brothers navigating a professional wrestling circuit as they reflect on glory days gone by, the series has Jack and Ace Spade take their sibling rivalry to the ring. Heels' premiere comes after numerous delays stemming from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and stunts going wrong on set.

Written by Michael Waldron, Heels stars Stephen Amell, Alison Luff, Alexander Ludwig, Chris Bauer, Allen Maldonado, James Harrison, Mary McCormack, David James Elliott and Joel Murray. The series premieres on Starz on Aug. 15.

Legends of Tomorrow

Legends of Tomorrow Season 5 concluded with the cliffhanger ending of Sara Lance being abducted by aliens before being whisked away to parts unknown. The latest trailer for Season 6 teases the different types of extraterrestrials the Legends will encounter across the timeline as they work to maintain the fidelity of the space-time continuum from further tampering. An additional promo showed the team investigating a burger joint infected by alien goo, leading to some genuine kitchen nightmares.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow stars Caity Lotz, Dominic Purcell, Nick Zano, Tala Ashe, Matt Ryan, Olivia Swann, Jes Macallan, Adam Tsekhman, Shayan Sobhian, Lisseth Chavez and Raffi Barsoumian. Season 6 airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

Loki

Marvel Studios is continuing to expand its original programming on Disney+, with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier followed by a series following Loki after the events of Avengers: Endgame. The God of Mischief is caught by the Time Variance Authority, with a sizzle reel showing the fan-favorite scalawag hopping across different timelines as the TVA contemplate that the trickster is finally working towards redemption.

Loki stars Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Richard E. Grant. The series premieres June 9 on Disney+.

Marvel Studios

One of the more prominent film studios to have their slate of theatrical releases repeatedly delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic has been the Marvel Cinematic Universe's eagerly anticipated Phase 4 of new feature films. A sizzle reel led by this July's Black Widow confirmed newly scheduled release dates for the lineup, including another look at Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and an official first look at Eternals.

Black Widow stars Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, O-T Fagbenle as Mason and Rachel Weisz as Melina Vostokoff. The film arrives in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access July 9.

My Hero Academia

One of the biggest anime franchises in the world right now is My Hero Academia and the English-language dub of Season 5 is coming to Toonami this month. As the students of U.A. High School continue their training to become Pro Heroes, schoolyard rivalries and explosive sparring matches are teased as Izuku "Deku" Midoriya takes a major step forward towards claiming his superhero destiny.

My Hero Academia Season 5 premieres on Toonami at 12:30 am PST on May 8.

A Quiet Place: Part II

A Quiet Place: Part II the sequel to the acclaimed 2018 horror movie A Quiet Place is finally coming to theaters this month. A new trailer showcases the start of the monster invasion as a routine shopping trip goes horribly wrong when an alien invasion rocks their small town. And as Abbott family hide from the sound-sensitive monsters prowling the ruins of civilization, they encounter another group of survivors that may be just as lethal.

Written and directed by John Krasinski, A Quiet Place: Part II stars Emily Blunt, Djimon Hounsou, Noah Jupe, Millicent Simmonds and Cillian Murphy. The film arrives in theaters May 28.

Resident Evil Village

Capcom's enormously successful Resident Evil franchise is back with its latest main installment Resident Evil Village. A launch trailer for the survival horror video game has Ethan Winters back in action after his daughter is mysteriously kidnapped and whisked away to a remote, European village. As Ethan investigates his sinister surroundings to rescue his daughter, he encounters werewolves, vampires and other things that go bump in the night standing in his way.

Developed and published by Capcom, Resident Evil Village is available now on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC and Google Stadia.

Rugrats

The beloved Nickelodeon animated franchise Rugrats is being revived as a CG animated series on Paramount+ this month, introducing Tommy Pickles and his fellow infant and toddler friends to a new generation. A trailer for the revival series shows Tommy leading his friends to rescue Chuckie after an adventure goes off the rails, with the original voice cast reprising their roles.

Produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio, Paramount+'s Rugrats is based on the series created by Arlene Klasky, Gabor Csupo and Paul Germain. Rugrats stars E.G. Daily, Nancy Cartwright, Cheryl Chase, Cree Summer, Kath Soucie, Ashley Rae Spillers, Tommy Dewey, Tony Hale, Natalie Morales, Anna Chlumsky, Timothy Simons, Nicole Byer, Omar Miller and Michael McKean. The series premieres May 27 on Paramount+.

Sailor Moon Eternal

Sailor Moon Crystal, the revival series of the iconic anime franchise Sailor Moon, gets a continuation film next month with Sailor Moon Eternal. Adapting the "Dream" story arc from the original manga series, the movie has a solar eclipse lead to the sudden appearance of a sinister circus while Earth remains shrouded in shadows. With dark forces at work, it's up to the Sailor Guardians to restore light to the world and save the day.

Sailor Moon Eternal's English language dub voice cast includes Stephanie Sheh as Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon, Kate Higgins as Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury, Cristina Vee as Rei Hino/Sailor Mars, Amanda C. Star Wars: The Bad Batch

The Star Wars Universe has just gotten badder with its new Disney+ original animated series Star Wars: The Bad Batch following the elite squad of Clone Troopers. Following the rise of the Galactic Empire, the squad goes on the run while putting their combat expertise to use across the galaxy as hardened mercenaries. And with familiar faces like Fennec Shand surfacing, the Bad Batch will have to stay one step ahead of their old overseers.

Created by Dave Filoni, Star Wars: The Bad Batch stars Dee Bradley Baker and Ming-Na Wen. New episodes premiere Fridays on Disney+.

Stranger Things

It's been nearly two full years since Stranger Things Season 3 premiered and Netflix has offered its most tantalizing look at its upcoming fourth season yet. A cryptic trailer shows a group of children playing together in confinement and under close surveillance. Previous teasers confirmed Sheriff Hopper indeed survived the events of the Season 3 finale, but is now captive in the Soviet Union. Sar Glen Matarazzo has also declared the season as the Stranger Things' scariest season to date.

Created by the Duffer Brothers, Stranger Things stars Winona Ryder, Millie Bobby Brown, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Priah Ferguson, Cary Elwes, Jake Busey, Maya Thurman-Hawke and Levon Thurman-Hawke. Season 4 has yet to receive a release date.

Supergirl

As Supergirl Season 6 nears its midseason break, Kara Zor-El remains trapped in the Phantom Zone after being exiled in the season premiere. With the rest of Team Supergirl preparing to enter the extra-dimensional prison to rescue her, Kara voices her fears to her long-lost father that such an incursion could potentially result in all of their deaths instead.

Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers, David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers, Nicole Maines as Dreamer, Jesse Rath as Brainiac-5, Azie Tesfai as Kelly Olsen, Julie Gonzalo as Andrea Rojas and Staz Nair as William Dey. The series returns Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
